Caritas- Tuesday

Kitty felt at least a little better after yesterday, in the way that she'd said what she needed today. The problem was that now there wasn't anything else she could do except go about her day and try not to think about it.

She'd asked the zombies to play some upbeat stuff tonight, which meant they'd settled back on country.

"Why are you like this?" she called from the stage.

Clint took one step into the bar and made a face at the zombies before beelining it to Kitty. "Does this qualify as a hostile work environment?" he asked, glad to have a topic that kept him from launching straight into asking how Kitty was doing.

"Yes," she grumbled. "The really terrible part is, I think they think they're helping."

Ugh.

She was already getting the headphones from their spot behind the bar to start hooking up to her phone.

"They've played worse things, I suppose, although I can't remember any of them in this moment," Clint said, taking a seat. "I'm tempted to say you should have stayed away an extra day but... I'm glad you're back."

How was he still this terrible at feelings, ugh.

"Me too. Honestly, I didn't really want to be there and having people mom me about this right now," she admitted, sticking the headphones over her stomach, and looking up at him. "And you're here."

He could be concerned without being smothering.

"Okay, I thought you were going to wear the headphones. God, you're adorable," Clint said, grinning. "I don't want to mom or dad you, I just want to make sure you're okay and you... you know, did what you wanted to do."

"No, every time they start this, I play her the Beatles. At no point in my life do I want my daughter asking me to play zombie music for her," Kitty explained, pulling the music up on her phone to play.

"And I'm okay," she sighed. "Frustrated that there's not anything else I can do, but I tried. I said what I needed to say and now it's all up to him. Whatever It is."

"Have I told you recently what a good person you are?" Clint said. "You have this influence on people that makes them want to be better. I'm glad you visited Peter, if only for some closure on everything, and it's probably selfish, but I have to say I'm glad you picked me instead of him."

"It was never a competition. And not just because we all thought he was dead," she assured him, smiling just a tiny bit. "I'm glad you let me."

You know. Since Peter had tried to kill him and all.

"Hey, you're an adult, you can make your own decisions," Clint said. "I'm never going to tell you not to do something you want to do, unless I think it's too dangerous. It is good to know you can get in and out of the Raft easily though," he added with a snicker.

Still, he'd absolutely had a right to say no to this one, all things considered.

"Do not get any ideas," she teased. "But I do like knowing no prison can hold me. Unless I'm discorporated, in which case inhale way worse problems."

"Do they always play that crap?" Rosa asked, once she sidled up to the bar for her usual Tuesday evening boozing and scowling, with a particularly pointed glare toward the stage. "Or just on nights I come in?"

Honestly, she'd rather be stuck listening to more of Kanan's karaoke.

Well...

...okay, maybe not. But it was still enough to wish she still had the ringing in her ears to help cover it up.

"I'm pretty sure they're doing it just to get on my nerves," Kitty grumbled. "Which is working."

"You want me to threaten them?" Rosa asked, because, really, that was her go-to solution to anything. "I honestly don't know with what...yet...but I'm sure I can think of something that isn't just kicking them so hard their heads fall off."

Even if there wasn't the whole punch-something-wind-up-in-the-pond thing going on, she wouldn't punch anyone in the band. She had no way of knowing how much of that band member would wind up just sticking to her.

"Oh, please don't knock their heads off, then I have to reattach then and I really don't want to do that today," Kitty said, and added, "Or ever. Maybe request something in literally any other genre."

"Couldn't you just make Tino do it?" Rosa asked. "I mean, what else do you have him here for if not to deal with all the gross stuff?"

That was how Rosa would have done it, anyway. But she did take Kitty's suggestion into consideration, turning a little to shout at the stage, "Hey, assholes! How about you play something that's actually good?"

Asking politely did not appear in the Rosa Diaz lexicon, no.

"They think this is good," Kitty pointed out. "Maybe a skecifyc request?"

"They literally could play anything else," Rosa pointed out, then let out a little grunt. It wasn't that having to pick was the issue, really...it was just the fact that she had to that she thought was stupid.

Not like zombies were known for their brain power or anything, though, right?

She thought of doing the whole 'Freebird' thing, but 'Freebird' sucked. So she eventually just shouted, "Do the theme from ~~RoboCop~~ DroidPolice!"

Couldn't go wrong with the theme from the greatest movie ever made, right?

Kitty stared at her, trying not to smile. "That's what you went with?"

Rosa shrugged, doing a much worse job of keeping down a crooked grin. "First thing to pop into my head that wasn't 'Freebird,'" she explained, "which sucks. I did say literally anything would be better, and that's literally the greatest movie ever made. It's got everything I like. Gratuitous violence..."

And here, Rosa trailed off like she was going to go into a list...but there was no list. That was it.

"You know what, I can't argue that," Kitty said after maybe a second too long. "I appreciate it. What can I get you?"

"This is going to sound weird," said Rosa, "but I'm really craving some absinthe right now."

Not weird, really, just a definite hold-over from the weekend.

"Do you even have that?"

"We do, though I can't guarantee I won't mess up the pour," Kitty warned. Because you didn't want to drink it straight ~~though it is hilarious to watch~~ but it wasn't something she had a lot of practice at.
