Sparkle stepped through his portal onto the island today looking only slightly harried and holding a basket of little black turtles.

Portalocity stopover. He didn't want to talk about it.

He was, however, setting the turtles in the window box so that people could... he didn't know... look at them as they wandered by? Hey everybody. He'd burgled some turts. If you wanted one, please come in and take it.

There was also a sign in the window that had nothing to do with turtles:

... And, okay, there was another little sign on the turtle basket just saying, 'Free.' If there were no takers, he'd drop them off at the shelter or something after his shift.

It was too damned early in the morning. Any hour of the morning fell into the 'too damned early' slot today. He knew Sparkle was supposed to be at his store today, so Kaidan stopped by the Perk to get coffee for himself and 'whatever diabetic coma horror Sparkle would like' as a secondary beverage. The baristas were apparently aware of their customers, because the second beverage wasn't so much a drink as a confection.

Store was open. Kaidan actually made it several steps across the threshold before he blinked and back-stepped so he could glance down in the basket. That hijacked his hello with a baffled, "Turtles?"

"Turtles," Sparkle confirmed, heaving a put-upon sigh. "Ever have one of those Portalocity stopovers? You know?"

With turtles?

At least they were cute little inky blob creatures. They had that going for them.

"Some weird old lady was just, like, snacking on them. Sooo I kinda pulled a 'look over there,' grabbed 'em, and bolted." As you do. "Want a turtle?"

Or, like, five?

"I've had one portal trip in my life and there weren't any stopovers," Kaidan pointed out. Kanan had been kind of in a hurry.

He grimaced a little at the idea of someone eating raw turtle, trying not to judge and totally failing. "I do not want a turtle. I'm still working myself up to the idea of getting a fish and don't feel ready for it."

He walked away from the turtles. They were incredibly cute. This was Kaidan, not poking the tiny turtles. He handed over the confection beverage, "You sound like you could use.. whatever that is. I don't think it qualifies as 'coffee' anymore."

His own was black. That was nonstandard, as far as Kaidan's own beverage choices were concerned.

"I can always use whatever that is," Sparkle informed Kaidan, grinning and making grabby hands. "So good call, there. This a bribe for fixing your nails? It's been way too long since I've fixed your nails."

... Well, it had been.

Kaidan laughed quietly and handed it over. "No, this is for no reason. I do have a message to run by you to see if it should go to Atton or not, but if he's still on Coruscant, I can deliver it myself."

He frowned at his naked nails. "They are boring plain, but I feel bad messing them up on Tuesdays. Thoughts?"

"My thought?" Sparkle grinned a little. "I figure if you mess with them on Tuesday, I have an excuse to fix them up on Wednesday. I have no complaints about that, you know."

Kaidan threw him a lopsided smile, "I walked right into that."

[myownface]

"You SUPER did," Sparkle agreed. "I'm totally willing to hear out your protests now, though."

So he could immediately come up with a workaround. Naturally.

"I feel bad taking up so much of your time with it?" Kaidan offered. It was about all he had. "You're only back two days a week, there must be other things you'd like to do?"

Lana had looked over the information about the town and found a clothing shop that was open today. Arriving and finding out things were on sale was a bonus. "Oh, lovely."

She walked in, looked down at the turtles, and knelt down for a better look.

"Cute, right?" Sparkle was calling from over by the counter, where he was chilling out with a turtle and some nail polish. "Those guys aren't for wearing. I mean, I guess you could? It'd be a weird fashion statement, though."

"Get two, and wear them as shoulder pads?" Lana suggested. It wouldn't be the strangest Sith fashion statement. She reached carefully into the box to pick one up. "What are they?"

[myownface]

"Turtles," Sparkle supplied. And then paused. "Probably. I think."

He made his way over to... not supervise, so much as pick up another one.

He wanted to keep one, dammit.

"They're a little darker and more shadowy than most turtles I've ever seen. Kind of like if someone took an impression of a turtle and made it out of goop. But in a cute way? It's weird."

"They're fascinating." Lana poked at hers carefully, then set it back in the box. "But not what I came here for." She stood back up. "I was hoping for some local clothing."

She was currently in a grey and black tunic with armored parts and grey padded pants, and gestured at it. "This doesn't seem to be it."

[myownface]

"Yeah," Sparkle agreed, looking her tunic over, "kinda not really. Which isn't a problem on the island, but might be weird if you hit up the mainland. Looking to blend in?"

"More or less," Lana agreed. "I don't mind being a little different, but generally when local people dress a way, it's for a reason. Seems prudent to copy them."

[myownface]

"Well, I'll help you put together a standard modern earth wardrobe, then," Sparkle replied. "Like I said, it isn't as important on the island. But if you go to the mainland you'll at least want some jeans or a dress or something."

[that_oldsaying]

The door burst open, and Alluka, dressed to the nines, stood in the doorway.

"Sparkle, Sparkle, Sparkle!"

Guess who was back on the island, Sparkle?

"Heeey! It's my favourite girl!" Sparkle grinned and held his arms open for a hug. "C'mere, fancypants, I need my hug. I have been SO deprived all summer!"

She beamed at him, then hurried over to hug him tightly.

"I missed you," Alluka crowed. "Lots and lots!"

"I missed you too! The place has been lonely without you!" Biiiig squishes. "Did you have fun?"

[that_oldsaying]

"I had so much fun!" she said happily, squishing him tightly before stepping back. "I want to go back and do it again!"

Well, do some of it again.

"Ringo and I have a plan for that!" It was... more like the start of a plan, but hey. "And, and I wanted to make sure--do I still work Mondays?"

[myownface]

Sparkle grinned as she stepped back.

"Mondays, Fridays, whatever day of the week you're feeling the best about these days," he replied. "The job is waiting for you, you just have to tell me when you want to work it."

[that_oldsaying]

"Mondays are still good," she chirped. "I've got classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays now, so I wouldn't want to work on those days, though I know some people do."

[myownface]

"Mondays are all yours, then," Sparkle decreed, grinning. "You're looking forward to getting back to it, are you?"
