Shooting Range Under Atlas Gym, Tuesday Afternoon
Yesterday had definitely been... something, and Kanan hadn't been kidding when he'd told Kaidan that he needed to work some of the knots out of his brain. Around the island these days, that mostly meant reaching for his lightsaber, but a lightsaber would only get him so far in the galaxy he kept going home to.
Today, he had his blaster with him, and he'd made his way to the range, leaving a note for Hera saying where he was headed as he went, maybe just so she wouldn't worry. Maybe as an invitation. He wasn't entirely sure himself. Still, it felt good to be settling in and taking shots at the targets, yellow blaster bolts illuminating the area around him as he fired the weapon.
This was the familiar, now.
This was the safe.
He was going to burn through a lot of ammunition today.
[OOC: Open range is open!]

"Not bad," she decided.

He fired off a few more shots, and then lowered his blaster to look at her more evenly.
"If you've got any pointers, I'd be happy to hear them, mind."
He'd be stupid not to.

He took that, filed it away, and then turned a faint smile Sabine's way.
"Figured it was about time I put in some hours down here using the weapon that's marginally less likely to get a target painted on my back," he noted. "It only ever sees use in the field, these days."

Headshot. Headshot. The heart. One shot to the shoulder, to incapacitate. One shot to the throat, not that a trooper's helmet would give him much of an opening there...
no subject
Just to show off.
no subject
That wasn't going to stop him from taking aim and giving her another pattern to follow, firing off several more bolts to basically carve an 'X' in the target's chest.
no subject
You know, safely.
no subject
Grinning a little.

And she added, "But better."
no subject
"What, you want to trade? We can put a sword in your hand instead," he teased.
... Eh, someday.
no subject
"I know swords, too," she told him. "They're just not my favorite."

"Anywhere I can give the Empire a headache," he replied. "Firing at troopers, mostly."

Unfortunately.

Which, coming from their galaxy, was really saying something, wasn't it?

He didn't just shoot his target in the crotch, but it was briefly tempting anyway.
"Or when people's future kids show up? Or that one time everyone was twenty years older and apparently here for a reunion..."
He was helping.

He was pointedly ignoring that time the dead came back, yes.
Maybe he'd regret that in a short while.
no subject
no subject
Because really. Fandom.
no subject
He probably didn't want to know the connection there.
no subject
"Oh, hell," he said, shaking his head. "Yeah, apparently. I'm pretty sure she's starting a small army of teenage ladies that I have at any point in my life had so much as a conversation with." He glanced her way. "How doomed am I, would you say?"
no subject
At least she was honest.
no subject
He did feel a little better, though.
For now.

"So I have to worry less about the pair of you, and more about a single Mandalorian? It'll be comeuppance for not having any shooting in class this semester, won't it?"
no subject
no subject
He would have to stay vigilant.
Or end up covered in paint, someday.
no subject
Just wait until the day you got a gremlin bite, Kanan.
"Hey, I have a lot of downtime, I've got to do something with it."
no subject
... It was really just a matter of time before a gremlin got the better of him, yes.
"I wouldn't want you getting bored."
A beat.
"I mean, this island is plenty boring half the time anyway."
no subject
no subject
He wasn't exactly the island's greatest art appreciator or anything, but it was all pretty hard to miss. And he couldn't deny there was talent behind it.

In a way, it reminded him vaguely of the old symbol of the Jedi Order, the round shape with wings, but... not. Closer to a starbird, maybe?

At least he copped to being a lost cause, right?

Deciding he liked the sentiment. Hoping it applied to so much more than art.
"Inspiration gives life to inspiration. On and on."

At least for now.
