The Onsen; Wednesday Morning [09/19].

Summer had it on pretty good authority (i.e. the radio report) that last Wednesday at the onsen had been a varitable hotbed of hot guys (plus Breq...sorry, Breq), and while she completely understood that it might be like hoping lightning would strike the same spot twice, she'd be remiss if she didn't at least try to go there herself in hopes that it turned out to be a regular thing. After all, it was Fandom Island. There was probably a spot somewhere in this place where lightning literally struck everytime there was a storm, or something.

Besides, when thirsty, didn't it just make sense to go where there was water?

If anything, it only took two seconds for Summer to realize that, even if she missed the wave of hotties, this was...pretty nice and relaxing, and probably something she needed, anyway.

Fortunately for Summer, at least one of the new guys to the island was starting to develop a bit of an onsen habit.

Granted, mostly it was beacuse he had no idea what else there was to do here during the day besides train and wander aimlessly, but Fjord was quickly becoming what was probably the cleanest half-orc in history.

Which was fine. He liked the water anyway.

"Morning, Summer."

He gave her a polite nod as he made his way to the pool clad in his dark brown swim trunks and nothing else, and then slid into the water, giving a bit of a content sigh as he settled in.

Visiting the Onsen had quickly become a habit for Seivarden too, and today she was even in an unusually good mood, and not the least hungover.

She slipped into the pool, letting her hands disappear under the surface.

Summer cracked open an eye a little when she sensed some movement, glad for the fact that she was already wearing a little smirk from general relaxation and mmm comfiness.

Score.

Then she cracked open both her eyes fully, blinked away some of the restful drowsiness that had started to seep into her, and sat up a little. "Oh, hey, Fjord," she said. "Good morning."

Fjord answered that with a little smile as the warmth of the water started to creep into him, putting his elbows up against the pool's edge and just taking a moment to appreciate it before offering a, "How are you today?"

Small talk. Lookit him excel at it.

This was far more like what it was like in the springs at the Citadel. Mitsutada settled into the water and rested his arms outstretched along the edge... because he was still wearing his gloves.

He wasn't familiar with many of the others, and was especially not familiar with the oni-looking man, but he was hardly here to judge. He was here to bathe, mainly. He gave them all a nod in greeting.

Summer opened one of her eyes lightly as she noticed someone else slipping into the water (nice), and then she had to blink a few times once more concrete details started to process in her head.

Wait a second, she'd knew that figure, because she'd already seen it this morning, oh so handwavily just about to head down the stairs at the moment Summer left her own apartment. And, thanks to those seemingly selective thin walls, she had a good idea which apartment she'd been coming from.

Interesting.

So Summer smile was all sweetness and innocence (and she wore it much more convincingly than some) as she nodded a greeting. "Good morning."

And so it would seem, there were sources of pretty, untapped and unknown to Summer thus far, still revealing themselves. Summer tilted her head back a moment to offer a silent prayer of thanks to the gods of Fandom and glitter and Wednesdays (so...Odin?). Hey, she was thinking she needed to find religion again; maybe that'd be a good place to start.

But for the time being, she returned the nod to the newest arrival and offered a smile as well. "Good morning."

"Good morning," Mitsutada said, with a friendly smile. "I am glad to see the other morning was just unusually quiet, as I am used to these sort of things being more social."

He shrugged a little, not wanting to make that sound like a big deal. "I am Mitsutada, it is nice to meet you."

"So far, so good," Summer said, which felt like an understatement as she gave a contented sigh that matched her smile and sunk a little deeper into the water. "I've got a real good feeling about today, too, like it's just going to be a great one. You ever have mornings like that?"

Mitsutada couldn't quite contain his curiosity, though he could hardly ask all the many questions he had.

So he thought it polite to settle on an introduction. "I'm sorry, I don't believe we have encountered one another," he said. "My name is Mitsutada Shokudaikiri, it is a pleasure to meet you."

Seivarden hadn't noticed to Summer earlier, and wasn't really paying attention to her now, until she spoke.

"Good morning," she greeted in return, not rudely, but not with much enthusiasm.

Gloves in the bath? That was a bit unexpected, but not stranger than having to wear trunks. Or resting bare hands on the edge. That was...

Seivarden nodded. "Good morning."

"Good morning," Mitsutada greeted in return. "It is a popular time here, I see. Which is good, as I was not looking for a meditative experience today."

"Mitsutada," she repeated it to help her remember and nodded again, "nice to meet you, too. I'm Summer. It's my first time here after...oh, man, what has it been, about four months now, geez. Last time was right before I left the island at the end of spring..."

But she'd felt the need to start coming back, for some odd unknown reason...

"I've had mornings like that on occasion," Fjord confirmed, smiling faintly. "Any particular reason? Weather? Bathwater's just right?"

"Fjord," came Fjord's reply, giving a polite enough nod of his own. "Busy day for bathing, isn't it?"

He was starting to get the feeling that his social life was mostly going to revolve around sitting in the water in dark brown shorts, around here.

"Summer, a fine name," Mitsutada said, repeating it for similar reasons. "I take it you had business off island? Or are you a student who returned after the summer?"

Look, it was hard to judge ages when you spent most of your time surrounded by swords who only just started to have human bodies and despite having souls hundreds of years old some were shaped and acted like children and others like weird grandpas.

And Summer at least did a good job of not smirking as she said, politely, oh so casually, "It's a nice morning, isn't it?"

"I am used to sharing such with many others," Mitsutada said. "It is often rare to bathe alone, where I am from. It is a good place for bonding, or at the least chatting."

And there might have been a small moment of frustration to be reminded that she wasn't too far removed from a student when she was trying to shed that a little (despite going ahead and making plans for future trips to the damn mall with a bunch of high schoolers), but she knew it was fair because she was only eighteen and very much looked it.

"Former student," she offered, deciding not to disclose how close to actual that former was. Did it really matter, anyway? "I was away to further my education," it was a handful of community college classes, Summer, calm down, "at the behest," behest? What the fuck, where'd you pull that one from, Summer?, "of my mother. But I'm back now, which is good. This place really grows on you, and I've missed it a ton."

"It is," Seivarden replied, not sounding too enthusiastic about the conversation.

"No? What were you looking for?" Seivarden smiled, a genuine smile.

"Good morning." Seivarden smiled, throwing a glance at Fjord. She had no idea what to say to him by now. If he wanted to talk, she'd bring up the tea subject. At least it was unlikely to lead to transport by animals.

Summer shrugged a little. "A little of column A," she said, waving her hand, then she waved the other one, "a little of column B. And now, I can add a third column, column C, good company."

Yeah, she was way too proud of that one.

"So we're still trending toward a great day so far."

"Where I am from, it is usual to share the springs with a number of my brothers in arms," Mitsutada said. "It is a place to come together and learn more about those around you, because your guard relaxes when you are mostly unclothed. At least, for many of us."
