The Park, Friday Afternoon

The weather was decent enough today that Kanan didn't immediately feel the need to retreat to the warehouse to run his lightsaber forms, and Amaya had made a request yesterday in Summer's class that he couldn't possibly turn down; when a smith made a weapon and wanted photos of it so as to better advertise their craft, denying her that would be denying her way of life, really.

And so he'd texted all his usual suspects a, 'Park today,' with a follow-up to Kaidan saying that they could move back inside if he needed, he just had some business to take care of out here today.

He was beginning to realize, after hauling several swords to the park along with some first-aid equipment and some water, that there were definite upsides to the warehouse besides just using it to escape the weather.

He sighed as he ignited his lightsaber and started doing forms while he waited.

Great. He was settling in on this damn island.

It figured.

This had been the first week that Rey would consider bad, but at least there was a check in to look forward to.

So guess who was getting a call.

And guess who was answering that call, shutting off his lightsaber at the very first ring of his phone?

"Hey," Kanan greeted, clipping the weapon to his belt and preparing to settle in. "Rey, how've you been?"

... He still worried.

"Could be worse," she said, which wasn't being vague as much as it was being an unrelenting optimist. "How are you?"

"Could be worse," Kanan replied.

... Mostly because this week had certainly been A Thing.

"Time keeps on going. Stance got himself another social media account yesterday."

He was going to be a very well-networked dog by the time this semester was through.

"So you now have multiple accounts for someone who can't use a phone," Rey said, amused.

"And yet he still manages to use them more than I ever would," Kanan agreed, chuckling. "It's my favorite loophole for Summer's class, really. Nobody's going to complain about a dog having an Instagram."

When Amaya eventually came around, she didn't want to interrupt whatever Kanan might have been working on at the moment, so she folded her arms and leaned against a tree, figuring he wouldn't mind her appreciative observations. True, she wasn't a fighter herself and didn't really have much intention to ever be one (rarely did she have a need for anything more complex than just a firm whollop with a heavy hammer), but she'd always enjoy getting an eyeful of weapons being used like they were supposed to, and with a good deal of skill to boot.

Kanan finished another round of forms before shutting off his lightsaber, turning to Amaya, and nodding a greeting.

"Afternoon," he said, giving her a little grin. "How's the backdrop today?"

Amaya nodded her greeting back, and took a moment to look over the park with a seemingly critical eye. "Not too shabby, I'd say," she concluded, "but I'm not exactly a photographer. Yet."

Yeah, no, she'd definitely not be quitting her day job any time soon.

"How's the training going?"

"Steadily," Kanan offered. "The weather's good for it this week, which is a nice change of pace from all this rain lately."

He paused, and then grinned.

"And Peter showed me how to use the teeth on that sword to disarm an opponent, which is my new favorite trick, by the way."

Lightsabers weren't so big on the spikes.

Amaya laughed, unable to help grinning back. "Oh, come on, now, you didn't think I put them there just because they looked good, did you?"

...she totally did. The other part was what she would have simply called an 'added bonus.'

"But that's great." Her grin took on a slightly proud, almost beaming nature. "I'm real glad to hear it's been working out for you. Probably a week or two, I could probably get another shot of it with Peter's sword, too, if this whole Intantgram thing takes off at all, and that'll be good. Your sword and his are two very different beasts. It'll be good to show off my...versatility, y'know?"

Yeah, he'd kind of figured, but it was an added bonus that Kanan fully intended to make use of somewhere down the road.

"Looking forward to seeing what it is you put together for Peter," he admitted. "And keeping an eye on your projects in the future, of course. Speaking of, do you want to get this going? I brought a cloak along - don't want my stupid face pulling attention away from the goods - and I can do this pretty much whenever you're ready."

Okay, he'd borrowed Hera's cloak because he was a paranoid asshole who had belatedly realized he had volunteered for a photoshoot for the internet.

Kanan shrugged and then simply sent back a thumbs-up emoji.

Another time, bud. He got it.

It was a lovely day out, and Lana had seen few enough of those that she was glad to be out in it, sipping a coffee she'd picked up.

She stopped to watch Kanan from a distance, observing his form.

His form was far less rough now than it had been even a few months ago, Kanan's focus so thoroughly on carrying through his Soresu forms that he almost didn't notice Lana's presence, at first.

Almost.

But he didn't sense any aggression from her. And so he saw little reason to stop before that form was complete. And when it was, he finally straightened up and shut his lightsaber off, turning to nod her way.

Lana nodded back. "Soresu?"

"Soresu," Kanan confirmed, glancing from Lana down to his lightsaber's hilt, and then back up again. "A specialty of my Master's."

Lana nodded. "A diplomat or consular?" she guessed.

"High Council."

She had been many things, really.

Fenris wandered to the park. The weather was nice. There was somebody there working what looked like sword forms with.. a sword on fire. There were several other swords in a pile nearby.

His eyes narrowed for a brief moment before he sauntered forward. "Is this the sword club Seivarden mentioned?"

Well. That was definitely a conversation starter.

"There is no sword club," Kanan replied, slightly exasperated as he continued running his forms. "I have some students. I meet a friend for a spar here on occasion. But it's not a club."

He'd shake Seivarden for calling it one, but he really didn't want to start any of that poodoo with her again.

Fenris leaned back against a tree and crossed his arms over his chest. The blade of his own sword was visible over his shoulder. "I wondered. Everyone I've met carrying a real sword had no idea what I meant by it."

There was a slight emphasis on 'real' as his glance slid to the wooden swords.

Running through the final steps of his current pattern, Kanan straightened up and shut off his lightsaber, looking askance at the... Sephi...? man.

"Seivarden has no understanding of swords and likely no interest in learning," he noted. "If she decided it's a sword club, it's because she never cared to pay enough attention to understand what it is we're doing here in the first place."

Fenris watched as the fire sword went out, chin tilting a little. "She isn't built like someone who uses a sword," he answered, "I would expect her knowledge to be small."

He cut another glance at the wooden swords. "What is it you are doing here with..wooden swords?"
