Trooper Station; Monday Morning [10/15].
Rosa Diaz was almost actually feeling like a bad employee, as she's just had a whole week off and now she was taking a half day so she could go to a baby shower, which didn't seem like a statement that should ever exist in relation to her, but it was Kitty's, so she kind of had to, right? And she didn't really mind, because Kitty was a friend; it wouldn't be like those gross, terrible baby showers for her sisters or anything, ugh, those were the worst.
And she brought Arlo 2 in with her that day, as well, because she didn't spend a whole week away from her dog just to turn around and hole her up in the apartment all day by herself. It was fine, though; she'd been thinking about maybe training her for some police work, anyway, especially since most of the work around here involved other animals. True, there would be a lot of work to do, since Arlo 2 was more likely to chase down a squirrel to give it puppy-kisses than to bite its head off, but Rosa knew that, deep down underneath that soft coat and those warm brown eyes, there was a killer's instinct.
Already, Arlo 2 had settled beside Rosa's desk with a piece of plasticy white that Rosa was pretty sure was a shin guard from a trooper's uniform. So she was on the look-out for any trooper missing one. Eventually, though, Arlo 2 seemed to be bored with the shin guard, got up, and trotted off somewhere, only to return later with a new prize.
"...is that a foot?"
Boot. It was just a trooper's boot. As far as Rosa knew, there weren't any collections of body parts in the lock-up here, nothing like the ubiquitous Bag of Hands at the Nine-Nine, but there was a brief moment of concern before she realized, as Arlo 2 settled back down and started licking the boot contentedly, that, yes, good, the boot was in fact empty.
It was probably weird that she was kind of disappointed about that, wasn't it?
