The Park - Sunday mid-morning
There was a playground at the park. Kaidan had spotted it during his run in the pre-dawn hours. When Hernando woke up and had finished his morning routine, Kaidan bundled him up, walked him down to the park, and turned him loose.
Hernando zoomed over to the playground and began trying all of the things, clambering all over it. He babbled happily in Spanish, telling Kaidan all about it.
Kaidan understood about one word in 20. Didn't matter. He smiled and nodded anyway. He was here mostly as chaperonage, to make sure Hernando didn't fall off something and break his neck. Ah, the fear of every parent everywhere, that saving throw vs. gravity.
He flopped down on the park bench and tried to relax.
If only he could stop tensing up every time Hernando got more than half a meter off the ground.
