T42 - Thursday 6am-6pm

Hernando entered the store and paused. It had dressed itself up in a sparkly and festive blue, silver and white themed array. Little LED taper candles flickered in sconces along the wall.

The art had changed itself. The autumnal paintings had been replaced by snowscapes interspersed with discretely religious iconography. He spotted at least one Rembrandt, which was the major clue to Hernando what the decorations meant.

Pastries were already set out and had he seen these first, he would not have wondered at the decorations. Cardamom donuts, raspberry sufganiyot (filled round donuts), chocolate raspberry rugelach, Halva-stuffed Challah, chocolate and pistachio topped coconut macaroons, chocolate babka were all stacked on silver tiers. The counter between them was littered with silver and gold gelt.

The tables in the store had more gelt scattered on them along with some small wooden dreidels, packs of cards, and cribbage boards.

"Ah," he said, patting the counter, "You have done a very nice job decorating for Hanukkah. It is a little early but I do not think anyone shall mind. Thank you. Am I to understand we shall be dressing thus through the 10th?"

The store didn't really answer.

The sign read:

SPECIALS
Toasted Mate spiced with Cinnamon Bark, Ginger Root, Cardamom, Cloves, Orange Peels, Cocoa Nibs and Apple Pieces. - 50% off

All Pastries BOGO!

Hernando set the sign in the window and went to brew himself a cup of tea. That blend sounded fantastic. Spicy yet warm and comforting.

Dave was on the counter nibbling on one of the wooden dreidels. Hernando gave him a brief pat. Dave responded by dropping the dreidel into Hernando's tea mug.

Hernando sighed and gently fished the wooden toy out of his mug. Dave!
