Luke's, Sunday
The kitchen staff seemed mostly distracted today. Oh, sure, they were doing their jobs back there, but they seemed less engaged with one another than usual. It took Kanan a while to figure out what had captivated their attention, too. A trip back to collect a place of pancakes revealed the cook, the dishwasher, and the busboy all huddled around a phone screen, watching some manner of cartoon about a man made of snow.
Kanan leaned in to watch for a moment, and then shrugged, shook his head, and gathered up the order to bring out for the customer.
Welcome to Luke's!
Today's Specials:
Eggnog Pancakes
Chocolate-Peppermint Pancakes
Gingerbread Pancakes
Kanan just let them be back there. If it kept them out of trouble, sure, they could watch cartoons.

Meanwhile, in another dimension, on the other side of the country, Beth Smith looked up startled from her glass of merlot at ten in the morning and felt very attacked all of a sudden, idly turning up the volume up on a meet-cute scene that involved dogs with santa hats.

Particularly if you were attached to a screen all the time.
"I hadn't even realized until I came in and saw the guys in the kitchen watching something about a man made out of snow. Sure, I can be a distraction. How high on the distraction scale do you want this one to rate?"
no subject
"How high," she asked, "does the scale go?"
no subject
"How high do you need it to go?"
Because this looked fairly dire.
no subject
"At least nine-tenths of whatever scale we're using," she decided.

Her grin was a little crooked. "In a galaxy that doesnt even know what those holidays even are?"
And once she said it, she realized that only made it more appealing, really.
no subject
See Kanan just make twin finger-guns at her and grin.
Exactly, Summer. Exactly.

She was trying very hard not to encourage him by showing amusement, but she wasn't doing a very good job of it.
"But, yeah, I think some off-world shopping would be amaze-balls. You have anywhere in particular in mind?"
no subject
He shrugged.
"Mostly came up with that plan off the top of my head. Any requests?"
Preferably ones that wouldn't get him killed?

Summer thought about it for a moment, though, conjuring up some of the trade routes she'd started seeing in her sleep by now. "I liked Naboo," she mused; it was easily her favorite out of where they'd been so far. "Anywhere else very similar to that? Ooh! No. Somewhere warm. Hot, even. Like, complete opposite of typical holiday weather."
no subject
"Soooo, you want a desert world? We've got desert worlds." He paused. "Or a tropical planet, maybe something with fewer moisture farms."

She had not made fun of him about that nearly at all; this was well overdue, don't even!
no subject
They both knew better now, dammit.

It did her own little ship-stealing heart good, although, really, BDG's and Grampa Rick's ships were two completely different animals if you got down to brass tacks.

Apparently, there were a few milennia in there for good measure.

No, he would not.
But he'd be a very disappointed Space Dad.

"Well," Summer offered, "you know I'm good for a few places to hide the bodies. I can get the coordinates for Screaming Sun Planet. No one'll want to look for them there."
Look at her, already with a backup plan for what to do with the corpses of potential students! She was going to make a great FH teacher!
"In the meantime, though," she said, "I think I'm actually going to go for those eggnog pancakes. With another eggnog shake. I....really don't think I've gotten enough eggnog yet this season."

Obviously, they were just jealous.
"But if it turns out you can't think of one...first, stop burning bridges on tropical planets, I mean, you gotta save at least ONE for me. And second, desert'll be fine in a pinch, you've just got to let me grab some moisturizer before we go or else I'll practically turn into a lizard."
no subject
"I'll figure one out," Kanan promised. "Preferably one that actually has a decent population, otherwise we'll be holiday shopping in a jungle or something."
He paused.
"Which could be fun, or could be a disaster with way too many teeth for comfort, it really could go either way."

"Sounds like a pass," Kanan agreed with a chuckle. "I'm thinking maybe Bri'ahl. You like worlds with pink skies, right? And that one actually has cities. Seems like as good a starting point as any. I considered Sesid for a hot minute, but I think the Empire's built a hell of a presence out there, and the tourism industry's gone right to hell ever since."

"Tropical islands, mostly," Kanan replied. "Beautiful jungles. Volcanoes, here and there. Turquoise waters. Beaches of black sand scattered with white shells, leading into the forests just beyond them. It was a beautiful world to visit. It's still a beautiful world to visit, if you don't mind the whole... Empire... thing."
no subject
"Do they have any...particular reason to be interested in it?" she asked. "Or is it just...you know...an Empire gotta Empire sorta thing?"
no subject
The Empire often had pretty extreme ways of field testing most things they developed.
