Luke's Diner, Saturday

Okay, Miguel had no idea what was up with the chickens in capes, but he'd been nearly run over - okay, tripped - by several, and how one had gotten up in a tree to dive bomb past him, he had no idea.

He knew what he was cooking today, though.

The cook opened his mouth, and Miguel held up a finger. "Don't. Just make the coffee."

The cook shrugged and went to do that, as Miguel filled out the specials board.

After running a careful assessment and figuring she didn't have to be on Arlo2 watch today (it's not like it'd be the first time she'd have to clean blood out of her carpet, after all, and honestly, she'd be proud that that dumb dog started attacking and eating something that made sense), Rosa went ahead and swung around to the diner.

"What's up with all these chickens?"

Normal greetings were for chumps.

"I have no shocking clue," Miguel said. "And capes? What does any of that have to do with Christmas?"

Hi, Rosa.

"Can I get you something?"

"Capes are so dumb."

Rosa felt it needed to be said, after a brief moment of trying to remember if Tightpants's whole tightpants get-up had a cape. It probably didn't. She wasn't exactly paying attention to that part, though.

She'd have still said it, though, of course. It was still true.

"And I don't know. I might get something to go, but I mostly came in to ask you something."

"Why do chickens even need them?" Miguel did not have a cape. Just...web-looking antigrav things that sort of hung from his back. A little. But not a cape.

"Coffee and empanadas it is." Miguel poured the coffee and put an order back for the food; she could carry it out if she wanted. "What's up?"

Rosa narrowed her eyes critically at Tightpants for a moment before asking, "What are your thoughts on RoboCop CyborbPolice?"

She'd decided it was important. Important enough to come over to the diner, anyway, but it wasn't like she was really doing anything much more important or interesting right now, anyway.

Miguel frowned. "I don't like being chased by them, but I can still take them out if I have to?"

Sorry, Rosa; that movie hadn't made it to his time.

"What?" Rosa looked confused for a moment before her brain caught up with her about the whole, right, people from the future thing, which, considering she spent a good portion of her days around a bunch of dudes in cheap-looking space armor, you think she'd be better about, but...

"No," she said, "not actual cyborg police. It's...it's a movie."

But this needed to be explored further. "Wait, is that an actual thing where you're from?"

"Er...the movie, no," Miguel said. "The megacorps have more than their share of cops, though, and yeah, there are cyborgs. A few pretty normal guys with mechanical limbs, a few psychos with mechanical...lots." He thought about it. "And one or two non-psychos, but for some reason sane people don't usually sign up for that stuff."

For reasons which presented themselves, really.

"Huh," said Rosa, who then had to take a second to see if she could figure out exactly where she'd put herself in that situation. On the one hand, she was pretty badass as it was without any additional enhancements. But on the other hand...

"You should see it, though," she added. "It's the greatest cop movie ever made. It's got everything I like. Gratuitous violence..."

...still sounded like she was going into a list.

She was not going into a list.

Though she almost added great plot out of pure spite, but, come on. Hot Leaf Water hadn't been wrong, she'd just been...insufferable.

"Come over on Tuesday; we can watch it."

Hey, was that sort of a date? Miguel was going to be cool about this. He totally could do that.

He was still grinning a lot.

"Sure, sounds good. Should I bring the beer and popcorn?"

Yeah, Tightpants, be cool. Don't start making Rosa regret this already.

"Sure," she said. "Just don't bring anything too shitty."

It should be noted, though, that, of course, she'd still drink it if he did. But she would then be obligated to make fun of him mercilessly, too.

Now she'd really have to give him crap if he brought shitty beer.

"If I find so much as a single unpopped kernel..."

"I'll weed them out myself." And now he would, just to be contrary. And maybe leave one unpopped one on purpose.
