Meanwhile, near the Scuba Shop...
| So...there they were. They had a glacier. They had an engine to put on the glacier (which, really, was honestly the most brilliant plan she'd ever heard of; Amaya was super impressed and a little in awe that she could be a part of something so beautiful). But what they didn't have, yet, was a plan on how exactly to get it there. "I'm pretty sure I have a pretty big slingshot over at the shot," she offered thoughtfully, hitching a thumb over her shoulder. "We could maybe just...launch it out there. 'Course, good chance of missing, and then there's the whole problem of getting it started." | |
| Ghanima frowned thoughtfully, gauging distance as best she could. "It is too far for me to get all three of us, plus the engine, there, and then return us," she admitted ruefully. "The Way is not meant for long-distance travel like that, and I have a limit as to how much I can break physics and reality without breaking myself and leaving us all stranded." Just herself and the engine? Maybe. But going over open water would be tricky, and moving Vala, a willing participant, during the Weeping Angels had been difficult enough. | |
| Verity bit her lip, looking around for inspiration. She'd be damned if they were going to be stymied by something so simple as a lack of a boat. "We could always..." She paused. Blinked twice. And pointed. Directly across from them was Surf's Up, for all their water fun needs. "Scuba diving," she said. "We could go scuba diving. Or, hell, we could snorkel in wetsuits. Either way, I'm pretty sure we can figure things out in there." | |
| "...scuba...diving?" Amaya asked, following Verity's direction. Not that it helped her out too much, but she shrugged. "I'm not sure I know what that is, if I'm honest, but I'm rarely against trying new things." Especially new things that involved putting engines on glaciers. She was a simple woman, that Amaya. | |
| It was a credit to Ghanima's training that she only looked mildly horrified, while half her tau memory erupted in hysterical laughter, including her mother. Some of the older Fremen memories within her were utterly appalled, of course, but they were not who she needed at this moment, pushing them aside behind the curtain to find those born and raised on Caladan and summon their expertise. "I grew up on a planet utterly devoid of water," she said wryly, eyes going unfocused for a moment. "I suppose I shall I have to write to Max and thank him for insisting I learn how to swim." | |
| "Uhh, scuba diving is a way to breathe underwater," Verity explained. "The bay isn't frozen over, so I was thinking we could swim there with the engine - " put the engine on a small, inflatable raft, maybe? Tethered to them by lines? " - and then hoist ourselves up on the glacier. If we do it right, they'll never see us coming." | |
| "Ah," said Amaya, as Ghanima's comment and distaste for the idea settled nicely into place with that explanation, and she considered her own stance on it for a moment before shrugging. "Been a while since I've been in the water myself, but that does seem like it could be more..ahhh...efficient than the good ol' slingshot method. Bit brisk, maybe, but I'd almost say by now I'm getting rather used to the cold." | |
| "Wetsuits it is, then," Ghanima said, striding towards the shop. "The faster we get this over with, the sooner we can have heat in our homes again." She didn't even have to feel the cold unless she allowed it, and she hated everything about this week. | |
| There were plenty of wetsuits and a lot of equipment that they were able to outfit themselves and Verity was happy to answer any questions. She was pretty sure her parents hadn't ever pictured her using her old scuba lessons for this exact scenario, but hey; they couldn't say it hadn't come in handy. And then they were back outside, ready to bring the whole contraption over to the glacier. "Doing this for the electricity," Verity said and dove into the water. Yup. It was cold, even through the wetsuit. |
[OOC: Also to be continued!]
