You know what today was a damn good day for?

Pancakes. And today, there wasn't anything stopping pancakes from being made, was there? And so the first thing Kanan did when he showed up for work (after making a pit-stop along the way) was order a plate of whatever was the special for the day.

Or, you know, all three of whatever the special for the day was. See? He was getting the hang of this Christmas thing after all.

"You know," said Summer, taking her expected spot at the counter after a pretty busy morning of checking on the state of two businesses and getting a dog set up in her apartment now that they weren't going to be freezing to death or mauled by snowmonsters, and eyeing the specials board, "it's good to see a sense of priority again around here, especially in light of recent events."

"Hey, the sooner things get back to a state of normal after these things, the better," Kanan quipped. "And I think even the cook wanted to make up for lost time after that food on sticks thing. How'd you fare through all the snow, Summer?"

"Well enough, I guess," Summer said with a sigh. "Spent the first half at the store...until the generator was destroyed. I'll have to replace it or get someone, like Amaya or Mr. Stark, to have a look at it soon, so it's ready for whatever the next emergency is. And then the rest of it hiding out in the community center since I'm on dogsitting duty for an unknown amount of time. Can't really go around chasing down angry snowmen when I'm supposed to be taking care of a dog, right?"

She sounded...sooooo disappointed about it, too.

Hey, she would have been fine with doing some snow damage, absolutely. But it was also incredibly nice to be in a situation where there were things attacking and she didn't have to do anything at all about it for a change, too.

"How 'bout you and Hera? Stance make it through okay, too?"

The phrase 'puppy playdate' immediately came to mind, and Kanan blinked, and then broke into a little bit of a grin. He'd mention it in a moment.

"Stance was just fine, though it took him about three minutes longer than usual for him to forgive me for going outside without him. We holed him up in the Ghost after the snowmen got too thick. Power ever goes like that on your again, give us a call, okay? Hera's ship has shields and power, a few snowmen aren't going to take that out."

"You'd think, one of these days, I'll remember about the Ghost in these situations, and yet..." Summer threw up her hands in a hopeless shrug. "But it wasn't so bad at the community center, either. They had coffee and food and it was good to see everyone else holing up there for the same reasons, y'know?"

"Guess it would be," Kanan replied, looking thoughtful. "The whole, 'in this together' sense of community thing comes out pretty strong in situations like those. Any other good dogs end up there?"

Priorities.

"It was practically a kennel," Summer said. "I had Girl, Kitty had her dogs and a baby, like, holy crap, superwoman much? Rosa's dog was pretty much running around in circles the whole time. I saw at least one cat. Some...mice? ~~Maybe others, too, but I can't brain right now~~. Stance would have probably loved it."

"Stance must never know," Kanan decided, right then and there. "I don't think he'd ever forgive me for opting to keep him safe when he could be pissing on snowmen and making a million new friends who probably really just want to sleep."

"Your secret is safe with me," Summer assured him solemnly, with a firm nod. "I do think, though, that I might need to bring Girl over for a playdate or something," hey, BDG wasn't the only one who'd had that pop into their mind straight away, "while I still her, too. Maybe that'll help make up for That Stuff That We Won't Mention."

"You know Stance would be all for it," Kanan agreed. "If you want to arrange for such a thing, we can. Hit up the park, run 'em around the scrapyard, just take them for walks, I'm not picky. Stance'll love it, whatever it ends up being."

"Is there anything that Stance doesn't love?" Summer wondered, a thought that was immediately followed by I should get Stance a present. Which was a dangerous thought, because that was a thought that could all too easily turn into I should get Stance all the presents.

"Stance does not love sharks," Kanan replied. "And... that's about it."

Short list. Easy list.

"He's a pretty easygoing guy, you know?"

"Yeah," Summer laughed a little. "I kinda gathered that much. Girl seems pretty easygoing, too, but...in a completely different way. I honestly think she's more capable of taking care of herself than most of the grown-ass adults," one of them being her own father, too, "I know."

That was why Zack was her person! She was also his dog, but in the grand scheme of things, Dog-Dibs counted more. Zack needed a competent pup. Kanan was perfectly happy with his hyperactive trash dog.

"I'm looking forward to meeting her, then. Hopefully Stance won't trample her too much." There was a pause, and then he added, "So, what's the pancake order for the day?"

"...do you think," said Summer, after a moment of studying the specials board again, "it would be, like, super annoying if I wanted to order one of each of those pancakes on the board? Because they all seriously sound incredible. And, of course, I'll need my last eggnog milkshake of the season, too."

"If it's super annoying, I was guilty of it first," Kanan replied with a grin. "And the milkshake, of course. Solid choice."

He sent the order to the back, and listened for any grumbling that might've happened from it. He never got tired of it, okay? Considering the smirk he was wearing when the grumbling inevitably came.

"So, after eggnog season ends, what do you figure you're going to switch to? We're still most of a year out from pumpkin spice again."

"I might just go back to the old standards," Summer decided. "Chocolate. Strawberry. Vanilla. Can't go wrong with those, but the Orea stuff's super good, too. That's the nice thing about the New Year, I'll be officially free from the obsessive need to consume all things thematic.

"Although now," she added after a beat, "now I'm thinking we need to see about incorporating some edible glitter into a themed shake for New Year's."

"New Year's here is glitter-themed, huh?" Kanan smirked just a little a tthat, too. "And here I thought that was an all-year-round thing. Maybe that's just a side-effect of living on Fandom Island."

All glitter. All the time.

"I'm still shaking glitter out of my clothes after some of the students took my warehouse over last week for a party."

"Glittery just kind of goes with anything worth celebrating, really," Summer offered by way of explanation. "Sort of a way to call up the whole fireworks and champagne, y'know, and I heard about that on radio~ Honestly, I'm a little jealous! None of my parties back when I was in school could have been on the level of highjacking your warehouse."

"Have you seen my warehouse yet?" Kanan shook his head and laughed a little. "It's an old abandoned wreck, Summer. It's a miracle the support beams haven't given out yet in there."

Nah, it was fine. Kanan had been doing some repairs in there.

"I'll take them decorating my warehouse over stealing my ship, anyway."

"It's not any worse than your apartment," Summer quipped dryly. Yeah, yeah, she kept saying she was going to break in there and completely renovate and redecorate the whole place, and one day? She might actually do it, too. "I'm almost afraid to find out what they're going to think of next."

Said in a tone that was the complete opposite of afraid, really.

"Honestly, decorating the warehouse is kind of a step down from stealing the ship," Kanan mused. "At this point I'm pretty sure they'll just break into my apartment and feed the dog. Maybe clean some dishes. Vacuum."

"Awww," said Summer, because, honestly, that was kind of adorable. "And, really, when they're done with that, send them on over to my place, it could use a good round of tidying up."

"See, we should all be lucky enough to have students that'll downgrade so much from stealing buses and starships."

Kanan really hoped the trend of downgrading continued, yes.

"Still can't believe they tried to steal the kriffing bus."

Mutter mutter.

"You still think you're going to offer to drive for the next batch?" Summer asked. "Maybe this time around, someone'll actually succeed."

"You know I wouldn't mind doing it again," Kanan noted, "but I have no idea if Skywalker'll trust me with the shuttle again after that last round."

He wouldn't trust himself with the shuttle either.

"I mean," Summer pointed out, "it's not like they did steal it; the fact that they tried and they didn't is a solid point in your favor."

Of course, she had a whole name for him based on the idea of him keeping that ~~super flat~~ butt in that drivers' seat, so she be more than willing to go to bat foror him on that one.

Hey now, leave his butt outta this!

"Yeah, nobody yells like I do, apparently." Kanan huffed out a little laugh. Shook his head. "At least I can be sure they'll probably survive the place."

"It...definitely takes a type," Summer had to admit. "Only thing that's worse than the people who wind up coming here are the people who get out of here and then actually come back."

"Yeah," Kanan laughed, shaking his head as he reached to pick up her plate from the kitchen. "What's up with those people, anyway?"

In his defense, Fandom was shitty maybe three times a year and even then it was generally still better than the Empire.
