Luke's, Sunday
Kanan came into work today and almost immediately just kind of paused and squinted at the specials board.
"... Really, guys?"
The cook looked up at him with wide eyes, trying to look as innocent as possible.
"It's festive!"
Welcome to Luke's!
Today's Specials:
Pancakes
But With Sparklers In Them
"It's lazy."
And possibly a fire risk. But, hey, what did he know?

A beat.
"Please."
Another.
"It's too goddamn early in the fucking morning for me to be awake and functional."
no subject
"Squirrels got you, huh?"
no subject
"Furry little fuckers," she answered with a growl. "Kaidan was right there in the other room and that asshole enjoys being up at that fucking hour of the morning but no, they wanted me. They do it again and I'm reading out squirrel stew recipes before I read their fucking notes."

He'd been doing the radio since almost about the same time he'd arrived on the island.
... Monday was going to be very weird for him.
no subject
She figured Kanan wasn't going to be shocked by that.
"You haven't heard the radio yet today have you?" She was amused as she drank her coffee. Jack figured he'd have at least a couple complaints at her if he had.
no subject
For obvious reasons.
no subject
It was weird to care. Feelings other than anger were just.. weird.
no subject
Stance was a weird rainbow-spotted force of nature that Kanan never could have foreseen.
no subject
Then she grimaced, "Nevermind, that made it make all the sense in the world."
Her lips curved in a smirk, "Maybe I'll threaten to drag you home myself. That'll get him going."
no subject
Like that guy who had a voice with an uncanny resemblance to his own.
no subject
You're welcome.
"Might be why he hasn't yet. Dragged you back." Probably it was still Kaidan ducking the debrief. Possibly it was due to the Balak shit going on and trying to keep Kanan safe from it.
Dumbass.
no subject
"Might be," he allowed. "I mean, I can handle a little bit of curiosity." He raised his eyebrows. "Met a few of the Krogans, seem to be surviving you so far."
Even met Ashley. That had been an experience.
no subject
"Pfft, Krogans," Jack waved that away like smoke. "Krogans are easy. They're big and loud and blunt and those four testicles make the males aggro challenge monsters, but they say what they mean and they're honest as hell with their words. Might be some blunt force trauma, talking to one, because that kind of honest is hard to take sometimes."
She drank some of her coffee and looked at him over the rim. "Liara's the one who'll take your head apart and it won't even hurt. You won't even know she's done it until you think back on it later. She's going to want to know everything. And you'll tell her. You'll find yourself saying things you've never told anyone ever in your life. Things you didn't even know you remembered. Shit you never thought you could even ever have thought."
Took another drink, "It'll all come out in the course of a normal and pleasant conversation and you won't even realize until later. It's not magic or mindfuckery or anything like that. It's just Liara. She's just.. If trust were a person, it'd be her. If I didn't love her like family, I'd kill her."
Liara was the worst.
Jack loved the hell out of her.

"I have....questions," she said. As...usual.
no subject
Like, 'WHY?'
no subject
no subject
Seemed about right, anyway.
"... Now you have me worried, though."
no subject
no subject
The curiosity was going to kill him.
no subject
"Yes!" she said, emphatically, excitedly. "Yes, yes I so totally need to see this, and, like, now."
no subject
"Okay, one order of possibly-a-terrible-idea pancakes coming up. What kind of milkshake is it going to be, now that eggnog season is past us?"
no subject
She should really learn how to play that one of these days, really.
"Boo-yah! Told you I was going to do a New Years milkshake. Toss that baby in with some vanilla, please! I wasn't sure what you guys had here, so I brought my own, and now I'm glad I did, because I don't think I trust those guys not to just put sparklers in it instead."
no subject
"Is that... glitter?" He squinted at it speculatively, but put in the order for a vanilla milkshake and the sparkler pancakes into the kitchen anyway. "Edible glitter?"
no subject
no subject
Or it could end up looking like slightly sparkly mud. Kanan was holding out hope for the streaks, though.
