Miguel showed up for work, headed for the coffee pot, and paused, sniffing.

He looked back into the kitchen.

"What?" the cook looked up, defensive and shifty.

"That...actually smells really good," Miguel said. "Can I get a plate?"

The cook eyed him suspiciously.

Miguel shrugged. "I'll even put it on the specials board and make something that goes with it, okay?"

Apparently today was going to be a weird-because-it-wasn't day.
