Trooper Station; Monday [01/07].
Rosa was just going about her own business, doing her radio reports, finishing up some paperwork, when a few of the troopers came over and handed her a file and asked her to look it over and tell them what she thought.
Well, that alone earned them a skeptical arch of her brow and a curl of her lip, but she decided to humor them since she wasn't really doing anything else, and read. And then she had to read it again because she almost couldn't believe that this was a thing that someone had actually put down on paper with the wholehearted assumption that it could be taken seriously and believed.
"So, let me see if I'm getting this right," she said. "You're proposing an investigation....into Caritas...under the assumption that the spaghetti that showed up on Friday and the garlic that was there last night...indicated that it's slowly trying to turn itself into...an Olive Garden?"
The troopers nodded. "That's right, Detective."
"And you want me to investigate this?"
"You're the best person for the job, Detective."
Well, they weren't wrong there, but still. "Ralph," she said, gesturing him closer with her hand. "Come here."
Which he did. Reluctantly. And he was wise to be hesitant about it because the moment he leaned in, Rosa smacked him upside the helmet with the file. It didn't hurt, of course, because of the helmet, but it did sort of sting a little on the inside.
"This is a new level of dumb, even for you guys," she said, "but, sure, I'll look into it. Lucky for you guys, I was planning on being there tomorrow anyway, and, believe me, you'll be the first to know the moment I see a breadstick."
Ugh. Had to love the lull that followed a big attack and a new semester around here.
