There were a few stray soap bubbles floating around the post office lobby when Éponine arrived in the morning, and she paused for a moment to admire how pretty they looked in the light with their iridescent shimmer then went on about her business, quite prepared to not give them another thought.

Except that when she went to open one of the mailboxes to sort some letters into it, an absolute torrent of thick, foamy suds came pouring out until she was standing ankle-deep in bubbles.

"Well, it's nice that my shoes are clean at least, I suppose," she said out loud with a sigh, shutting the mailbox door and ending up with a smudge of soap suds on her nose for her trouble. "Except I've got to go run out and do deliveries soon, and won't they be all dirty again! So you see, you've gone to all that effort for nothing."

The mailbox didn't seem to mind. Maybe she could just get it to repeat the incident at the end of the day?
