Kanan's Warehouse, Friday Morning and Afternoon

Kanan was starting to appreciate having his Friday mornings free. It meant he was getting into the habit of showing up at the warehouse first thing - today he had brought Stance along again - and could spend some time meditating before people arrived.

This morning he was working on that whole, 'make a connection' thing that he'd been taught as a kid. He'd put it to some measure of practical use last weekend with Stance, and now he wanted to just settle into the familiarity of it a little bit more. Which mostly meant a morning full of having the dog equivalent of, 'hi! hi! hi! hi! hi!' bouncing around his mind while Stance trotted circles around him, but... that was Stance, really.

Not a bad way to spend a morning, bonding with a happy dog.

... The afternoon would be spent tripping on the happy dog while he attempted to run through lightsaber forms, but what was there to be done about that?

It was another early call from Rey, holding her phone between her ear and shoulder as she was working under a console, but she had to call and today meant multitasking.

Breq stepped into the warehouse in the afternoon when her classes had finished.

"Your dog seem happy," she said, actually smiling.

"Hey, Rey."

Happy to hear from her? You bet. And possibly actually taking heart in the fact that she was calling in the morning. Morning meant she was still hiding that she called him, which meant she still had something to hide, which meant she still had the ship.

"How goes it?"

"He's a happy guy," Kanan replied, grinning a little as he lowered his training sword. No actual lightsaber today. Not with a dog underfoot. "This is pretty Stance-standard, really. Hey, Breq."

"Hey," she said. "Do you have time to teach me today?"

She suspected Kanan would say yes, but she preferred to give him the option.

"Of course," Kanan replied with a grin. "Have you been practicing the steps I showed you since last week?"

"Okay," she said, cautiously. "I'm trying to get this motivator working, but I said I'd have it done today. How are you?"

"No motivators, but I do have a dog underfoot," Kanan offered. "Stance and I have been doing some extra bonding since I spent last weekend riding him around like an oversized eopie. It was one of those weird ones, again."

There was a long pause, and finally, "I'm sorry, what?"

[uncertain_dume]

"Oh, yeah," Kanan sighed. "Last weekend Fandom thought it would be cute if most of the locals were ten centimeters tall. So getting across town involved a little bit of creativity."

A pause.

"And a dog."

Lana stepped in and nodded. "Kan- hello!" as she got mobbed by a very excited dog.

She laughed and knelt down to greet him properly. "He's in a mood today."

"He spent all morning having his ego boosted," Kanan chuckled, keeping an eye on that excited dog mobbing. "I figured it couldn't hurt to work on getting a little better at just... connecting. So we had a good chat. And now he wants to play."

A pause.

"Forever."

Possibly Stance's own words. Or whatever passed for words, with dogs.

"A bit," Breq said, walking over to pick up one of the bamboo swords. "I can show you and see what you think."

There was a clanking sound, and then Rey rolled out from where she'd been so she could sit up. "You got to ride a dog?"

"Works for me," Kanan replied easily. "Let's see how much you've remembered, we can fine-tune as we go."

[uncertain_dume]

"I got to ride my dog," Kanan confirmed. And then paused. "It was a hell of a ride. Stance doesn't do anything by half-measures."

"I'm extremely jealous right now," Rey admitted.

Honestly, she was very prepared by life for that sort of weekend.

"If my phone wasn't about as tall as I was at the time, I would've gotten pictures," Kanan replied. "I'm sorry you can't live that one vicariously through me."

"That's all right. Did Stance like it?" she wondered.

[uncertain_dume]

"Oh, he loved it. Got to run all around the island. Even had permission to dig through the fridge."

Opening it had been a group effort.

"Good dog," Rey grinned. "I bet he's glad to have you back to normal though."

[uncertain_dume]

"Well, it's much easier for me to feed him at this size," Kanan noted. "And rub his belly. His priorities are pretty straightforward, overall."

"And I'm sure it's much better fur you to be normal. I can't imagine upsides to being that small."

Aside from Stance rides.

[uncertain_dume]

"Saved a lot on food that weekend," Kanan offered. "Got a lot more exercise. Wouldn't have been able to fly my ship, though, so, it's a trade-off."

"Oh, that's a big one," she agreed. "I think the ship wins out, more than the rest."
