The Magic Box, Thursday
It was Mae's first day in a new job! (It was Mae's first day in any job.) It was also Valentine's Day in a shop where people had been asking for love potions for the last couple weeks, despite a sign specifically saying they wouldn't be sold here.
What could possibly go wrong?
"Do you sell love potions?" A customer asked.
"Nope," said Mae.
"Damn," said the customer. She sighed, stuck her hands in her pocket, and looked around. "How about stuff for revenge?"
With a little more experience under her belt, Mae might recognize that as a glaring red flag and nip it in the bud right away. But alas, Mae was 14, and prone to chaos, law-breaking, and general stupidity, so she immediately struck out looking around for a solution to this customer's revenge problem.
"Ooo, this one says it'll turn people green. That could be fun." She picked up a second bottle. "This one does polka dots! We should mix them together."
This was definitely going to end in tears.
