Luke's, Sunday
Kanan walked into Luke's today to see the entire staff waiting in a semicircle around the door, hands up with fingers curled into pincer-like shapes, looking excited.
And then, after taking one look at him, lowering their hands and turning around, heading back to do their respective jobs, muttering something about how it figured the spaceman would know to dress for the holiday, or something.
Kanan frowned and settled behind the counter, pulled out his phone, and did some Googling.
Welcome to Luke's!
Today's Specials:
Corned Beef and Cabbage
Hearty Irish Stew with Soda Bread
Green Pancakes
...

A beat.
"Hi ickle. How's your day?"

"Nobody's tried to pinch me yet." Complaint? Complaint. She liked punching people. "Oh! Hey, closets are giving out free cereal today! Put a piece of plastic down or something before you open one. I have so much cereal now. It falls out of the closet every time, too!"
So much cereal.

Which he was bad at.
"... I'll pick up some bags on the way home or something so I can stock up. Thanks for that heads-up."

"I got a vacuum sealer if you need it," she offered, "That's what I'm doin' when I get home. Might get fancy and make a bunch of single-serve size cereal pouches along with the regular size." Squinted for a moment over her coffee, "I should stop at Costco and get more of the plastic bag things for it."
She was going to need them. She'd opened the closet like three times just out of glee.

Especially once he discovered marshmallows.

"The pre-made bags come in different sizes, like.. smallest holds maybe enough to fill a coffee mug, medium holds two coffee mugs full of stuff, large holds four coffee mugs full of stuff, extra large holds eight. The plastic comes in a big tube, you can make bags as long as you want but still only as wide as the machine. You take food and you put it in the bags, then you stick the open end in the machine. It sucks all the air out and then seals it. Keeps dry goods fresh almost indefinitely. Fresh food, you freeze it first then seal it in with no air, stays good in the freezer almost indefinitely. It's the same type of packing ship rations get. Fucking excited when I saw they had 'em here and bought one first thing," Jack said with a small grin.
"First time in my fucking life I've ever had to even think about extra food, you know? Grissom's got a cafeteria. Normandy's got a cook. Before that, I didn't really worry about food at all. Here? I got a goddamn fridge and I go grocery shopping and then I stare at what I bought like fuck, I just bought sixteen steaks because they were on sale, what the hell do I do with 'em now?" She laughed a little, "Answer: Seal the little bastards in plastic and stack 'em in the freezer til I want one again."

Or, heck, even the Escape, but his ship was for a very different sort of mission than Hera's. There were living quarters in Hera's.

She was a very satisfied Jack right now. That was an awful lot of free cereal she'd .. opened doors for?

"Works for me. We haven't been on a proper shopping trip since the conversation hearts, anyway."
There was probably a reason for that, you disaster people.

The answer to that question would determine a lot from here on in.

...
"Actually, I don't know. I didn't think to ask. But I suspect that it's probably food coloring. The cook put all his actual effort into the stew this week."
no subject
"...I'll try 'em," she decided. "What the hell, right? If it's really bad, then I get an excuse to yell at them, which I have not done in a very long time. So, green pancakes, a mint chip shake, and tell the cook to dress the pancakes up with what he thinks would go well with them."
She wasn't taking a chance on maple-syrup-and-broccoli pancakes...if she could help it.

Who wasn't about to let any pi-rats on her turf. It was...super awkward.
And also confusing, because why couldn't she be a bit more like that with Leroy when he stuck his nose around the apartment, huh?
"You?"

"And I wear green all the time anyway," he noted. "Today the goal is to stay out of the way of any gremlins." He paused. "So, what's with the whole wearing green thing, anyway? I get there's a holiday, but pinching?"
no subject
She blinked at her phone.
"Okay, yeah, apparently, you get pinched because green's supposed to make you invisible to leprechauns. I guess maybe the Fandom version of that would be invisible to gremlins, but that's not something I think I want to try out. I'm coming on almost two years without a single gremlin bite, and I'd like to keep it that way."
no subject
"So, invisible to leprechauns is... a good thing?"
no subject
Her eyes shifted a little to the side, up a little, as she thougtht about it.
"You know," she said, "I'm actually kind of disappointed that that list is so short."
no subject
...
Most of them were dead. Not that this fact had eever stopped Fandom before.
