Devil's Nest - Wednesday
Jack sauntered in and Tiny threw her the keys. "How's it going, Joe?" she asked. Jack made it a few more steps before she heard what she'd just said and stopped. "I mean Joe," she said. A massive scowl curled across her face, "This fucking island, I swear. I mean JOE." The scowl grew. "Oh fuck everything about this."
Tiny looked up from the bar with a sardonic grin and drawled, "Hi yourself, Joe." Jack squinted at him to see if he was fucking with her. Tiny flailed his hands to the sides in what was becoming a universal gesture for 'this is not my fault the island is to blame help help'. Jack grunted acknowledgement and continued to the stockroom. "We got coffee flavored booze in this place?" she called. "Yeah?" Tiny responded, "Three or four different kinds." "Get it out," Jack confirmed, "If we're gonna have to say the goddamn name all night, let's go ahead and make it worth it." "How does that work?" he asked a little bit warily. "You'll see," Jack promised.
She dug out a specials board and began to write in fluorescent chalk marker:
SPECIALS TODAY!
Coffee vodka, coffee brandy, Kahlua - Double or nothing!
Choose one and drink free if you can say the bartender's name right!
If you're wrong, drink price doubles!
Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!
Tiny snorted back a laugh when he read that. "Man, Joe. We're either going to make mad cash or we're going to have an entirely wired crowd tonight." A beat. "Hell with it though, right? Let's find out." In the name of good fun, he dug a sticky name tag out of somewhere and wrote 'TINY' on it in large block letters. He slapped the sticker over his breast with a smirk. Jack shared a smirk back with him and finished her stocking.
As if the day couldn't be awful enough, the sound system started playing 'Cotton Eyed Joe' on repeat.Because Z is evil and reminded me this should happen.
