Furricane Animal Shelter, Tuesday

Okay... so things were a little wet. Apparently wet enough that the name of the shelter had once again changed at some point, though Zack still wasn't actually aware of that fact. Yesterday had been a day of discovery, realizing that the upstairs apartment had been re-purposed to house the non-aquatic animals and the main floor was up to his waist in water, though the fish and frogs and snails and little shrimps and turtles and even a few random ducks all seemed to be completely happy with that arrangement. He supposed Sidon would be too, for that matter. After returning some texts to Iris last night, he went downstairs to hang a hopefully waterproof sign.

Welcome! The Non-Aquatic Pets Have Been Moved Upstairs!
Come on up!

And then, after a few minutes of deliberation, he added, Chickens are still on the roof in sharpie.

There were a lot of things on Wayne's to-do list today, and accomplishing the first one (somehow managing to find a kayak on the unflooded school grounds, specifically because he'd already proven his kayak prowess here on the island with that first batch of Wednesday activities) wound up making the next part a whole lot easier. Because he figured, he didn't have much else to do, so figuring out a way to get to the pet shelter today without depending on a gondalier was a good way to spend his time, and then he just kayaked on over, squinted thoughtfully at the sign, and went on upstairs, to ask a very important question that had been weighing on him since Monday when he discovered all the dinosaurs were gone.

"Are the dogs back to being dogs?"

It was an exciting thing to hear, too. Because no matter how much that flooding out there managed to somehow defy the very laws of physics and nature, at the very least the dogs were back to being dogs.

And that just seemed to make everything right in the world again.

For at least the time being.

And that was enough to make Wayne outright beam. For a fleeting second. "Outstanding!" he declared once the beaming was over and he wasted no more time dilly-dallying with all this conversation and made his way over to see some very good boys.

Wayne nodded in easy agreement to the unspoken suggestion in that bounced ball, catching it easily and holding it on the ready as he peered down into the eager cluster of puppies to let it be known that he shouldn't have to tell them that he'd throw the ball just as soon as they all settled nicely and obediently so he knew they were all ready and took this very seriously. Discipline, then affection, in that order. But they settled very well in anticipation, and, just about when he felt that they might break it because they just couldn't hold it in any more, he went and gave the ball a light toss toward the other side so they could all go tearing off after it.

And, of course, the first one to come tearing back and dropping the ball off at his feet would be the one that got first dibs on cuddles. Seemed a pretty fair system, if you asked Wayne.
