Luke's, Sunday
"Gonna have some nerf, gonna have some nerf, gonna gonna gonna--"
Kanan had brought his dog to work today, yes. In part because he was well aware of how exhausting Stance could be and he wanted to give Hera a bit of a break, and in part because, unlike so many other places on the island, presumably Luke's still had meat somewhere in the freezer, and Kanan wasn't going to be That Guy who put his dog on a vegan diet if he could help it. He distinctly remembered that there was nerf in the freezer, and, while he had nerf at home, yes - he and Hera made certain to pick up food as part of their supply runs back home - he was really looking forward to having someone else cook it up for his dog today.
"... What do you mean, you used it all up yesterday? What do we have in there?"
Welcome to Luke's!
Today's Special:
Vegan Pancakes
Double Chocolate Avocado Ice Cream
And hot dogs for the carnivores.
Stance didn't seem to mind that alternative, either.
"Om nom nom!"

She honestly felt a little bad she hadn't tracked down chatty Stance sooner, but them's the
uncooperative irlbreaks. She had absolutely no doubt the dog would be with BDG at the diner today, anyway, and if he wasn't, well, she knew where they lived and would hang out with Hera instead. Win-win!

"SUMMER! SUMMER HI HI SUMMER I GOT A HOT DOG DO YOU WANT A HOT DOG HI YOU CAME TO PLAY!"
... Stance was Very Excited to see you, Summer. Incoming spottydog. Who was, yes, still wearing his vest-vesty-vest. It was his favorite thing in the whole entire world except for sticks, right now.
no subject
"Stance! Look at you! That is a great vesty-vesty-vest! I'm sorry I didn't come see you sooner this week, buddy, but Pancakes was kind of demanding all my time, you know how cats can be, and she's sorry that she couldn't come to say hi to you, too."
'Couldn't'. Pancakes had absolutely no interest in dealing with any of this nonsense.
"And, nah, Stance, I'm going to have my usual pancakes today, no hot dogs for me, so that just means more for you, right?
"Seriously, though," she added, turning her head to look up toward BDG while lavishing Stance with a million well-deserved pets, "I have been craving these pancakes since last night like you would not believe, Beej. I legit almost just called at, like, one in the morning to see if I could get some delivered."
Almost. She thought about it....and then promptly forgot.
To be fair, though, Pancakes had just gone into a pretty interesting rant about belly rubs and navigating the dangerous waters that were when they were appropriate and, more often than not, when they absolutely were not that was, like, so totally relatable, and that had definitely been like opening a whole can of tuna.

Kanan just stood behind the counter and smirked a little.
"I'm sure somebody, somewhere, delivers pancakes at that hour. You can get flatcakes pretty much any time back home. But at one in the morning? Wouldn't have been me doing that delivery run."
Much as he liked you, Summer, there were limits.
no subject
"Stance," she said, "if you sit really good while I have some pancakes, we'll play Toss the Hot Dog, okay? And that's exactly what it sounds like, where I'll toss you a hot dog and you can show me how good you are at catching it, how's that sound?"
no subject
"It'll be his favorite game until somebody throws a," Kanan paused a half-second while he picked which alphabet to spell out the following word in, "s-t-i-c-k."
Not for Summer's sake - he figured she was probably doing a decent job of learning Aurebesh by now, after all - but because Stance was starting to learn what Kanan was spelling out in it, too.
"And," he added, "I'll have you know that one is plenty late when you're up for w-a-l-k-i-e-s at the crack of dawn."
no subject
Still, she grinned down at the dog, gave him a knowing wink, and fished out a dog treat from her purse. She'd come prepared. And so he'd at least get a taste of Toss the Treat for now.
"And here's where I point out the benefits of the Way of the Cat," she said. "While you've been doing ass-crack-of-dawn w-a-l-k-i-e-s, I've been learning the value of the mid-morning nap.
"And the after-lunch nap...
"And the late-afternoon nap, too."
no subject
... So she pretty much had him figured out.
"Sure," Kanan replied, "but Stance here has never puked in my ship."
So, you know. It was a trade-off.
no subject
Yes, even less likely than Arlo 2, although, with that one, it was just because Summer wouldn't be surprised if she just accidentally stumbled into Enslaving or Destroying All Humans.
And, for that (and for the adorable little tippy-tap dance), Stance was definitely getting a treat tossed his way, and Kanan was getting a cool glance.
"And I think that's probably the unspoken reason Pancakes didn't want to come today," she noted.
no subject
Yeah, cats were for tormenting, clearly.
no subject
"But," she added, which was only partially an attempt to change the subject, but also because it was important, "you know what else practically-almost-officially-summer means?"
no subject
"... Swimsuit season?"
Kanan.
Kanan.

She paused, just slightly, for dramatic effect, but not, like, that dramatic.
"It's going to be my birthday soon! You can always remember when it's coming up because my dumb-ass parents named me Summer because they have no imagination and thought I was born on the first day of summer. But spoiler alert: June 19th is not the first day of summer."
And, sure, they were both younger than she was now, but still. C'mon, parents.
no subject
Also not the point, Kanan.
"But, right, birthday," he added, snapping his fingers and pointing at her. "I... really need to start making note of when people have those. Any big plans for this one? Any big requests?"
He could just get her another blaster!
... He was bad at gifts.
no subject
"Nothing really yet," Summer admitted. "I'm still thinking about it. And who knows if things'll even be normal around here by the time it rolls around, so that's going to be fun to plan around. But I haven't done, like, just a big-ass party in ages. So I'm leaning towards probably that; I just need to hash out the deets."
no subject
"The deets," he echoed, amused. "Well, you know I'll make the time for it, whenever and whatever you do."

Even if that one friend was a total pushover?

... He'd rented his office out to the students who'd tossed him under the bus the other week.
It would be hard to find those limits.
