So the place was under new management, the island had finally landed in a place that didn't seem absolutely murderous, and things were pretty normal over all.

Which meant Mitsutada was absolutely expecting the nonsense the kitchen staff had done.

Regina didn't pick up on the theme right away.

"I thought this was supposed to be a diner," she said instead. "What kind of diner serves coq au vin?"

"This is not your usual sort of diner," Mitsutada said with a casual shrug. "Then again, this is not your usual sort of town."

"I don't think we've met yet," he added with a casual smile. "Mitsutada Shokudaikiri, pleased to make your acquaintance."

"Regina Mills," Regina said, letting one side of her mouth quirk up. "And if I hadn't been here for last week's . . . adventure . . . I might disagree with you."

"Last week was definitely a certain taste of how peculiar it can get here," Mitsutada said. "A nasty one, unfortunately. This week certainly seems far more mundane, which I prefer."

He was definitely getting... soft, to put a word to it.

"Yes, well. I can see where this place would keep you on your toes. I don't suppose anyone knows why we were vacationing in a horror story?"

"I think if you're looking for explanations of much that happens here, you'll often be found wanting," Mitsutada said with an almost apologetic smile. "Things occur without sense or reason here, more often than not."

"Everything happens for a reason," Regina said with a shake of her head. "Not always a good reason, but still."

"Well if we consider 'the island has whims' a reason, then I suppose this is true," Mitsutada said. "Have you come from a place far more normal than here? We all seem to have our own peculiarities and sense of what is usual. I will not startle you with my particulars quite yet, if you are still adjusting."

"Normal is relative," Regina pointed out. "But -- no, I wouldn't say Storybrooke was all that much more normal than Fandom. It doesn't move around, but we've had more than our share of curses and strange threats over the years."
