Luke's Diner, Saturday
When Miguel arrived at the diner, the busboy and dishwasher were huddled at the doorway to the freezer. After a moment, the cook came out, wiped sweat off his brow, and lifted up a string of fresh fish. He put it down, walked back into what Miguel could now see was a portal over the doorway, and almost immediately jumped back out.
"What's going on?" Miguel asked.
The cook waved at it. "Been like that all morning. No telling what you'll come back with."
"There's one over the pantry door, too," the dishwasher added.
Miguel sighed. "At least we keep some coffee up front."
