The park- Monday morning
Maybe it was the fact that Rey felt like she should have a routine to fall into even though she hadn't been here long enough for that. Maybe it was something else. But it was about the time that she stepped out of her too-big apartment to leave for the day that the feeling that things were wrong really hit.
That was quickly followed by a dawning horror that she wasn't supposed to be like this. She'd largely avoided being affected like this in this town, and this was a hell of a way to have that change.
All right, so.
She ended up at the park, taking a seat on a bench. If anyone came by, then obviously she was just happily enjoying the scenery and watching the rubber duckies in the pond after a long time away. But mostly she was trying to reach out and get a sense for other people on the island, what they were feeling and whether there were any little flashes of panic from people figuring things out. She'd expected something weird today. This didn't feel weird. It felt more than that.
You know, she would have liked to get some training in first.
[Open! Happy!

"Beautiful morning today!" she chirped chirpily as she lurched across the park (stupid knees that didn't bend...) "Everything happy and as it should be?"

But that last thing was also good for sussing out who she needed to be careful around.
"Always," Rey said, as brightly as she could manage. "I'm so glad I came back here!"
Her timing was awesome!

"What's your name?"

In all the senses of the word.

Like Rey wasn't already going to super avoid Paris.

...Was it weird to smile after that? Rey was doing it anyway.

She pulled out a notebook from her dress's apron as well as a pen, which she could somehow manage despite having molded porcelain hands. "What makes you think he was unhappy?"
no subject
She hated this and she didn't trust that notebook.

Rey's face hurt. She didn't smile this much.

Sounding as calm and convincing as possible, because she felt as calm and convincing as possible, she suggested, "You don't need to worry about me. I'm the happiest person on this island."

Look, it had worked before.

And the best thing about it? His hair was staying perfectly shaped and molded no matter what!
Making his rounds around the island and doing a few extra loops around the park, he made sure to smile and nod his perfectly sculpted head and lift his well-jointed arms in a wave to the girl on the bench with a bright and cheerful, "Good morning!"
Because it was a good morning, as far as he knew. He'd sort of slept through the announcement. Some habits couldn't be broken even as a toy.

And he meant that, too! And not just in the it better be good because then I'd have to worry about someone not having a good day and that would be bad! sort of a way.
But also, just a little bit in that sort of way, too.
But mostly because he genuinely hoped she was having a good day. Mostly.

Couldn't even leave the ducks out of it.

And he sighed the wistful, happy, contented sigh of a person who absolutely believed that with 100% dreamy conviction.

"There's definitely nowhere like it," Rey said, honestly. "What are you going to do with your day?"
