The Perk - Monday early evening
Delirium and Barnabas were out for a wander. She'd checked the island for weirdness, looking under logs and rocks but the only weird thing she'd found were some particularly colorful snails that she'd watched go about their tiny snaily slimy business for awhile.
Things on the island seemed to be back to what passed for normal around here. There wasn't anything bad, so far as she could tell. That was good. She didn't like bad. Especially not the kind of bad she couldn't make be some sort of good if she thought positive enough and maybe tickled it. Bad kind of bad that stayed bad was.. bad.
Finding her way to the Perk, she wandered inside. Barnabas went with her. He was an aide dog and besides, there wasn't a sign saying he couldn't and even if there had been Delirium would have just turned it to bubbles and then there wouldn't have been. She squinted up at the menu first with one eye and then the other but the words stayed the same. The barista gave her a very patient look and waited.
"Um. Could I have a hot chocolate for me with a leeeetle beeeety beeet of coffee in?" she asked, holding her thumb and forefinger up to show how much a leeeetle beeeety beeet truly was. "And could I have a beer for my doggy?"
"We don't serve beer here, m'am," the barista said patiently. Delirium considered the problem and looked at Barnabas. "I'll have some tea in a saucer if you don't mind," Barnabas said for himself. Del just shrugged, "And that." When it came time to pay, she pulled a handful of colorful bills from her pocket and put them on the counter to pick out the ugly only-shades-of-green ones. Then she did some maths until she had the right number of bills and pushed it across the counter, stuffing the rest of the random monies back into her pocket. Quite pleased with her effort. The barista patiently gave her the change but she tipped it into the tip jar because that's what you do with change and she put one of the colorful bills in as well just to make it prettier inside the jar. Probably nobody needed a Zimbabwe One Hundred Trillion Dollar note but now they'd have one, in case maybe they did.
She took her drink and Barnabas' and found a table where she could watch everything. It was a nice night for it. People were out there and monsters weren't. That was a good start to any night.
[Open Perk is open. Del needed to be more active.]
