The Perk; Wednesday Afternoon [09/25].
If you weren't five minutes early, you were five minutes late, so Wayne figured if he wanted to be actually early, which he did, he should get to the Perk about fifteen minutes before the time set for his coffee and pastries date with Shuri. Fifteen minutes might have been a bit too early, though, he realized, after a few minutes of sitting there, but, on the bright side, it was still early enough that he could go outside and have a dart real quick and get back with plenty of time to spare to be five minutes early, which was, then, exactly right on time.
Hey, it made perfect sense in his head, anywhey, and that's what really mattered.
And as he waited (for an undetermined amount of time, as he didn't quite know where Shuri might fall on the whole 'five minutes' thing, but he s'posed he was likeleh to find out), he got to thinking about what kind of pastry he might like, which on the surface seemed a relatively simple and arbitrary choice, but, as it turned out, it was a surprisingly complex process, especially considering that, no matter which way you worked it, Canadian maple was always going to come out on top.

And anyone who noticed that she walked into the Perk exactly three minutes after Wayne did was just paying entirely too much attention to things.
"Hi!" she said, beaming. "Imagine finding you here."

"What're the odds!" he remarked. "Shuri." He nodded, met her beam with a marginal but definitely present upturn in the corners of his mouth (some people might even go so far as to call it a smile, but ain't no reason to get excited). "How are ya now?"

He moved to go pull out a chair for her at the table he'd been sitting at, because of course he would.
"Have a seat. And what can I get fer ya?"
Because of course he'd do that, too.

"Pumpkin spice it is," he confirmed, and not even judging her for it. One could argue it was practically traditional, by now. "Anything else?"
It was s'posed to be coffee and pastries, after all, so he just wanted to make sure.

And no one had warned her.

With that, he went to the counter to place the order, although there was vlearly a little bit of indecision and debate going on about exactly which muffin he should go with.
But, when all was said and done, he wound up returning with a small black coffee and a Canadian maple donut for himself, and a large pumpkin spice latte and a cinnamon strusel muffin (he figured they'd go pretty nice together without bein' too much, as he suspected a pumpkin spice one would be) for her.
"Way ya go," he said, setting them down and then setting himself down in the seat across from her, arms folded over his chest. "Now, then. Your brother?"

For given value of that, since they lived in a palace and had responsibilities to attend to.

Under the complete impression that he would not be coming back, but he s'posed coming back hadn't been all too bad so farrrrr....

She took a sip of her latte and her smile got even wider. "This is delicious."

"Glad you like it," he said, setting his coffee down again. "And her name's Katy, she's my little sister, a year younger'n me. I think you'd like her, Shuri, and she'd liked you, too. S'too bad she's not got a General Assembly in New York goin' on so she could hop on down, but I s'pose Letterkenny's a bit of a closer leap than...Wakanda, wasn't it?"

"Ya got lucky," he finally said. "By pickin' the best one, but still. Lucky. It was still jus' a ten percent chance, though, so....not so bad."

Behold, the limits of Shuri's Ontario geography!

"Give or take a few hours," he said

"How 'bout you? What's there keepin' you busy back in Wakanda?"

At 16. She was maybe a little smart. She grinned. "I made my brother a pair of shoes that are sound absorbent. I called them 'sneakers.'"
But still very 16.

It was exactly the kind of joke he would have made that no one would even acknowledge, and then he'd be extremely put out that no one even bothered to achkowledge it.
"No, y'wanna know what, Shuri? That's better'n pretty good. I'd go so far as to say that's really good."
