This weekend there would be strangers coming around.

Well, probably not strangers to the people they were visiting, but Hera didn't know them.

So she was going to spend today trying to make sure that the scrapyard wasn't particularly dangerous to anybody who might wander in, the unused docks were ready for use, and anything particularly incriminating was completely out of sight.

The bitey bits were "helping".

"No, leave that! Leave it. Rusty..."

There was a freighter There today, and while Rey was showing Finn around, Chewie had kept the landing ramp down and had started repairs to the exterior of the ship.

There may have been one Wookiee cursing.

...Ecen if you didn't understand him, you could probably tell it was cursing.

Well, that was definitely a ship from her neck of the galaxy. Hera approached it cautiously; it could be just about any"body in a ship like that. Probably not Empire, but you never knew.

Until she got closer. She was reasonably certain no wookiee would ever be working with the Empire, and she relaxed a little. Only a little; that didn't exactly sound like a happy wookiee.

"Hey there," she called up, "everything okay?"

From atop the ship, his answer was going to be along the lines of, "If you know how to..." and then he actually looked over at her.

And blinked.

And thought about the name of where he was.

And nodded and gave a yes.

Hera smiled up. "You sure about that? Anything I can help with?"

Chewie considered it. If she was offering, he knew she knew how to do it.

So he waved her up.

There was years of neglect, he didn't have Rey around full time, yes please.

"Hold on, let me get my tools." Hera retrieved her kit, found the ladder, and clambered up to take a look. "What's giving you the prob...oh. That's not good."

This poor ship! "She's a YT-1300, isn't she? The base, anyway." Maybe she had some parts...

Did she know Shyriiwook? Because he was nodding and proceeded to go into detail about the model, with some choice words for the sleemos that had started making bad modifications.

If he ever met Unkar Plutt he was throwing him through a wall. (Even If most of the actual damage sustained on Jakku had been Rey's fault.)

Hera's Shyriiwook wasn't perfect (and she certainly couldn't speak it), but ship terms she definitely knew. Enough to be horrified, anyway.

"That's...okay, where do you want to start? This girl deserves much better. Oh - Hera Syndulla, by the way." She stuck out her hand. "The Ghost over there is mine, and so's this place for now."

This was weird, being introduced to someone you knew. She did look younger, at least, and Rey hadn't mentioned anything about it, so Chewie decided to go with it.

So he introduced himself with a big hairy handshake and pointed out some recent damage around the sensor dish. Then once that was done, there was more repairs to be done on the outer weapons systems. They worked, they needed to be better.

All right, Finn and Rey were back later than intended, but there had been training, and this was a busy weekend, and so when they finally got back with food, Rey sent Finn on ahead with everything and waved hello at Hera.

"Right." Hera nodded. "Let me see what I can do. If we've got any parts around here you can use, just let me know. Most of the useful stuff's in that pile there," she pointed, "but there's plenty of scrap metal and wiring, too."

"Hello, Rey." Hera smiled and watched where Finn was heading. "Oh, is Chewbacca here to visit you? I wasn't sure; we mostly just talked ship."

He was glad she said that, because they probably needed so many things! And they hadn't exactly been able to make any stops in order to get more parts so they'd been flying around on what they already had.

It had been very interesting, Hera.

"Yeah," she said, smiling. She got visitors now. "That thing is what we've been flying around on lately."

Hey, Hera got that. It was the main reason she wasn't griping at him about what he'd put this poor ship through.

Instead, she was hunkering down by the sensor dish and getting to work.

"She seems like a good ship that's seen an awful lot of bad luck," Hera said. "I did a bit of work on her, and I already told Chewbacca, but if there's anything you can use from here, just let me know. Or grab it yourself."

"Thanks. She sat unused on Jakku for years, and then things got interesting pretty fast," Rey said. "And then there were the porgs."

"Porgs?" Hera asked. "What are those?"

"They're these little birds from Ahch-To. They're adorable," Rey told her. "They're heeat, But theyre also ripping up the wiring and making nests all over."

So, uh. Watch your junkyard, maybe.

Hera winced. "That doesn't sound like fun." She would definitely be keeping an eye out.

"No. But sometimes," Rey said. "They don't mean to be trouble, we just... didn't get them clear before we left."

Because once Rey was done on Ahch-To, she'd been done.

"Wait, they're still in it?" Hera looked alarmed. "Can we contain them? We've got a lot of ships here!"

"It's okay," Rey said quickly. "They're more likely to swipe some spare parts you have around here that they can use for their nests. And maybe I can get them not to do that."

It'd been a while since she'd practiced that, anyway.

Hera sighed and nodded. "They can take whatever parts they want as long as they leave the actual equipment alone."
