Blackstone Foundry and Forge, Thursday
Fjord had made his way in to the Forge today.
Wasn't... wasn't really certain what he was doing here, but he'd made his way in. His shape was all wrong. Even just swinging a hammer needed to be approached differently, accounting for certain... obstacles... that just weren't there ever before.
But still, he'd made his way in to the Forge.
He took a look around the place. And then sighed, settled in, and started cleaning and sharpening blades.
Had to keep busy somehow, anyway.

"Morning, Fjord," she greeted, handing a nice big mug of said coffee right on over as she got downstairs. "What is this, now? Day four?"
And day two for her, and wasn't that just a thrill. It wasn't that it was necessarily bad, of course. She'd meant what she'd said last night about having gone through a whole lot worse. But it just wasn't her...
...and yet still enough of her that she knew it wouldn't be long before the parts that weren't were gonna start to just drive her right up the wall...

Nope. Not even a little bit.
"Day two for you," he noted. "Off to a good start, at least?"
It was hard to be off to a bad start with coffee, right?

Actually, no, it probably wouldn't have been much different at all, save for a little more difficulty with clothing and quite a bit more zardses.

Hell, he'd needed that.
"Glad it made your yesterday easier'n it could've been, though."

She was also, obviously, giving the island and its logic far too much credit.
"But, either way," she continued, moving around over to the main counter, "if you do want to spend some time figuring things out, I've made some notes."
And she pulled a notebook out from underneath the counter, plopping it down on the top.
And then another.
And another.
"Feel free to look 'em over if you think it might be helpful." Because she figured it would be far less awkward for them both to do that than to have her go over the specifics of her newfound observations about the whole thing personally. "And, in other orders of business," because business was always going to be a much better thing to focus on, "you'll pretty much have to keep an eye on things here at the shop next week while I'm gone. Any big orders coming in, you just let them know I'll get on it as soon as I get back, but anything else, I'd like you to go ahead and try to tackle on your own. You can handle most of the little stuff just fine by now, I'd think."

This was... going to be an educational experience, for sure.
"Didn't realize the school trip was so soon," he noted. "Easy to fall out of the loop when you take a few steps away from the school, I suppose."

"Which reminds me," she added, like she was going over some very disorganized checklist in her head, "Seivarden'll have a key to the apartment, to look after the plants, so if you hear anything moving around up there, don't worry too much. It's probably just her, unless, of course, something does happen next week thing might be cause for concern, in which case, I'll trust your judgement. But I'll admit, I'm probably going to be a little put out if I come back and this place isn't anything more than just a hole in the ground."
And not even just for the loss of business! It seemed a shame to miss out on whatever could manage to do that.

"If something hits next week while you're away that's capable of that, I'll be sure to direct all explosive retaliation away from the Forge," he promised. "You know, I really kinda like the place. Wouldn't want anything to happen to it."

That thing took forever.
"I'm pretty fond of it myself," she noted with a grin and a lift of her cup before taking a drink. "I'm sure it'll be nice and quiet, though, so much so that it'll be enough to drive you a little crazy, especially with so many people gone."

There was a long pause.
"I have a lot to learn about engines, if I want to maintain a rig like the Cape Rouge."

"Sounds like you've got a lot of work ahead of you, then," she noted.
no subject
A beat.
"Once I get my hands on a boat, anyway. Hell, I get one big enough, maybe I can switch 'hotel room rental' costs over to 'docking fees.' Wouldn't be so bad, having a home I can move around when I feel the urge to roam a little."

"It'd be new," he noted. And paused. "Having something 'my very own,' I mean. Not the boat itself. Whatever I end up getting is going to have to be one hell of a fixer-upper. Boats that size aren't cheap."
Hell, even boats a fraction of that size weren't cheap.

"Hey, if the kids at the school can put up a place like this and not have it comin' down on their heads, there's even a chance the boat would still float by class three or four," he mused, grinning. "That's promising."

This summer had been very weird.
