Homecoming Brunch, The Park, Sunday Morning

The decorations at the park were a little more tasteful this morning, leaning more towards the blue and gold of the school's colors than anything neon that might hurt someone with a hangover. Honestly, considering the porgs running around looking even more adorable, would anyone really be looking at anything else?

Breq had decided to stop by the brunch in the park after a morning walk, just to see if anyone she knew was there. All her attention had gone into the store lately, and she didn't think isolating herself from people was really a good idea.

Wearing gloves in case Tisarwat should show up, she picked up some food and found a seat. A group of porgs quickly gathered around her, their big eyes staring up at her. She looked back, not sure what they wanted.

Rey had graduated from the school so this technically was her homecoming, she supposed, even if she hadn't talked to anyone but Summer in a long time. But after skipping the dance last night she decided to make an appearance here on break from work, where she could sit at a table with some food and people watch.

And fit the witch's hat on a little porch that was toddling at her feet, though as soon as she did that the hat slid right back down in front of its eyes again.

"Do you think we're supposed to think they dressed themselves, or that someone dressed them?"

Hello to you too, Octavia. And your ridiculous plate of food.

(Also she assumed the correct answer was 'the porgs just woke up looking like this'.)

"I assume this is a thing that happened to them that some are more pleased with than others," Rey said, tipping the witch porg's hat back again before it hit anything.

"You'd think the island could've at least give them things that fit better," Octavia noted with a slight drawl, even if she looked faintly amused. "Unless the point is to make us think of them as even more vulnerable than usual."

Or maybe that was just her and her incredible soft spot for the damned things.

"You mean adorable?" Rey smiled.

Octavia huffed quietly.

"Why not both?"

"It can be both."

She learned down, scooping up the porch to set it on the table where she could watch it safely.

"I might actually be sorry when they don't have outfits tomorrow."

Luke was so taken by the adorable little porg that he bumped right into Rey before he saw her.

Amazing Jedi skillz. Truly.

"Oh. Hi!"

So smooth.

Well, on the plus side, Rey wouldn't automatically be sad when she saw him anymore?

"Hi," she said, a little warily. "How's it going?"

Look. She was new to awkward post-makeout situations.

Well, he'd had awkward post-makeouts and fled the galaxy. So that was...not awesome.

"It's going!" he said weirdly Midwestern all of the sudden? "How's it been for you?"

"Good."

And because she had absolutely no idea what to do in this situation, she said, "That weekend was... ludicrous."

Was the immense relief on his face a good sign, then?

"At least I wasn't pining for Principal Winchester's daughter this time?" Luke said, wincing.

Liam was leaving aside the logistical question of how the porgs managed to dress themselves in tiny costumes in favor of snapping pictures with his Global to send to Ariel.

He was also, of course, collecting brunch food on two plates: one for himself and one of somewhat more portable items to bring home to the mice.

Stark, still a bit on the dusty side but no longer in a box of any kind, had made his way to the brunch. Some things never changed, like the ability of Fandom residents to locate free food on offer. And like the island providing adorable small creatures like the porg wearing a tiny construction hat that had sat next to Stark's plate and promptly helped itself to half a bagel while Stark worked his way through more bacon than one Banik really needed at once time.

Some things, like the actual residents of Fandom, apparently did change.

From where she was sitting, Rey was trying not to pay attention to all the bacon because that felt rude, but the dust was out of the ordinary. So she gave a little wave, because it wasn't like she knew everybody here yet.

Stark didn't know everybody yet either. Actually, it looked like Stark didn't know anybody. So he waved back, bacon still in hand.

"You look a little... dusty," Rey said. "You okay?"

It could be a normal explanation, it could be something Fandom did, who knew.

"I was in a box," Stark said by way of explanation. "It was dusty in there. And in the building. I think it was empty for a long time." Until it suddenly wasn't but this was Fandom so that was hardly the strangest thing to occur this weekend.

"Okay?" He wasn't sure. But at least there was food and familiar surroundings. " Yes. I think. Probably. Thank you. For asking."

"You were... in a box," Rey repeated. "Do you need anything?"

Well, that was an unfamiliar mask face.

“Careful,” Liam said with a grin. “Or they’ll take you for all they’ve got.”

Stark nodded. "It didn't even ask first." Next time be more polite, porgs! "I don't mind sharing. But it could have asked." The porg, seeing an opportunity while Stark's attention was not on his plate, went for a slice of bacon.

"It could have asked," he repeated sternly, pointing his fork at the porg.

“Don’t think asking is in their vocabulary,” Liam noted, dangling a sausage at another porg.

"It should be," Stark said. "No need to be rude. I would have shared anyway." After all, porgs have no thumbs so how would they hold their own plates?

He picked up a piece of melon and offered it to the thieving porg. "See? Sharing." We can only hope he didn't decide to teach an island full of porgs manners.

“Liam Kincaid, by the way,” he introduced himself. “You new or just here for the weekend?”
