Community Center Class: Modern Earth Entertainment, Monday

"Hey, everybody." Peter waved. "Sorry I missed last week. It's a little late for Halloween now, but I had this one planned, so I guess there's no harm in watching it now. It's apparently a really influential horror film, one of the originators of a genre called 'slasher' films, films that involve one overbearingly evil character killing a lot of others."

Peter shifted uncomfortably. "This kind of thing isn't really something I enjoy, but some of you may, and it is fairly well-known, so...well. Enjoy? And if not, there's snacks and drinks."

He pressed play

Amaya Blackstone

On the one hand, Amaya was all for the use of anything motorized and pointy to do some damage. On the other hand, you know it was pretty bad if even Amaya was feeling like some of this was a bit gratuitous and unnecessary.

On the other other hand, if you didn't think she was already trying to piece together a few ideas on adding chainsaws to the Crumbler right now...hi, have you met Amaya?

She was oddly excited to at least get a few thoughts from Seivarden on the matter, though, or, at the very least, take in a good range of thoroughly disgusted and confused expressions from her, which could arguably be more entertaining than the movie itself.

Yeah, Seivarden looked disgusted. She actually put the pocorn bowl aside, because this movie was ruining her appetite, and turned to Amaya.

"What the fuck is this?"

Annnnnnd called it.

"Hey," said Amaya, lifting her hands as if to abscond herself from even a mere suggestion of responsibility, "don't look at me, we don't even have movies where I'm from, remember? But, if I had to take my best guess, I'd have to say it's some sort of...chainsaw massacre."

Which was, conveniently, probably not the actual title of the film based on the emphemerial nature of vague meta.

"Who makes a fucking movie about that?"

The disgusted expression didn't go anywhere.

"The people who made this movie, obviously," Amaya offered, oh-so-helpfully, and she shrugged. "I'm sure some people," she could think of one right now, actually, "would be entertained by this sort of thing, but, honestly, all I'm seeing is a highlight reel on how a chainsaw, while an excellent tool for cutting down trees, is not even remotely the most effective choice of a weapon for dismembering bodies."

...that was probably not helping, Amaya.

But now that she mentioned it, it wasn't going to leave her head how this was all just incredibly inefficient.

"I think watching people get chopped up by an axe woul actually be better. I can't believe I'm saying that."

She snorted.

"I can't believe I'm watching this uncivilised crap."

"Well," Amaya reasoned, "at least no one's singing."

Because priorities.

"Or getting married," she added, with a wrinkle of her nose, a moment later.

"Are you actually preferring..."

Seivarden gesturing towards the screen.

"... this to a bit of singing?"

Amaya took a moment to really, truly consider the screen, which, at that moment, included one of the young female protagonists making a desperate, blubbering crawl toward the screen while the chainsaw-wielding bad guy loomed behind her in the short distance.

Then the shot cut away with a splatter of blood over a litany of droning chainsaw and piercing screams.

"Oh, yeah," said Amaya. "No contest."

"Oh, you're completely uncivilised," Seivarden said, for once not intending that as an insult.

Amaya had to grin. The distinction of uncivilized had never bothered her; in fact, she wore it with pride and always had, and was maybe going to preen a little about it right now, too. Especially if being civilized meant preferring singing movies to slasher ones.

"What can I say?" she said. "I likes what I likes."

And she'd like it better if there were explosions, but, hey, you win some, you lose some.
