Community Center Class: Modern Earth Entertainment, Monday

"Right." Miguel crossed his arms and glared at the gremlin who glared right back. "I don't know why these things are insisting I be here if they're just going to choose the movies themselves. But apparently they think this one is topical. Or maybe funny. Who knows?"

He waved at the table. "I did make empanadas today, if you'd rather those than chips or popcorn, and there's soda, beer, and tea," because he knew his audience.

"Enjoy. Or try anyway. Or you try to get rid of the gremlin so we can watch something else."

There's food and drinks. Mind the gremlin. Or try to boot it out. Miguel will thank you, once you're back to yourself.

The nice thing about being a really shy and introverted child was that the worst Amaya had coming out of the weekend was being called a nerd by some kid on a boat (she assumed Duke, and she would not disagree with him there!). She'd mostly just spent her weekend holed up in the shop, poking at things and pouring over books she'd already read and being incredibly impressed with her own margin notes.

Still, she was feeling pretty glad to be back to her actual age and her more outgoing (although, really, no less nerdy but maybe a little better at hiding it) self again, pursuing the snacks as if she'd wind up going with anything other than what she almost always grabbed.

Not that the weekend had been the worst here, and it hadn't been the first time, but Seivarden was just wanted to forget about it by complaining about whatever ridiculous movie Miguel was going to show. While being protective of her own bowl of popcorn.

Forget about it, you say?

So wouldn't it just be a shame if someone were to ask?

"How'd you fare over the weekend, there, Captain?" Amaya grinned as she drifted over, in part because she was curious, and in part because it never hurt to find someone else to talk to in case Shunsui showed up.

Seivarden sighed.

"Can't we just forget about the weekend and complain about the movie instead?"

Amaya's brows lifted into her bangs a little.

"That bad, huh?"

Which wasn't a no, Seivarden, but it also wasn't a yes.

"Well, no, I mean," Seivarden said, "I've had worse things happen on this island. I just don't see why we have to talk about it."

She looked at Amaya.

And Amaya looked right back, snorted, then held up her hands. "Alright, alright," she said, laughing. "Fair enough. Keep your secrets. We'll just talk about the movie. What sort of new fresh hell's in store for us this week? If it involves even a hint of singing babies, though, I'm outta here."

She'd been doing this movie class thing long enough to know how it could go sometimes.

"It's not much of a secret," Seivarden said. "Issa got stuck in a tree."

That had been on radio after all.

"Or bad spaceships. No singing babies or bad spaceships."

It had, which was why Amaya had been mostly joking, but Seivarden never did appreciate her humor nearly enough, anyway. She appreciated it plenty enough for the both of them, though, smirking slightly as she shook her head.

"Great," she said. "And now you've cursed us to be stuck with singing babies on bad spaceships."

It hadn't even left her mouth before she was already making a face because, oh, zards, pls no.

"That... sounds... I suppose you never know here."

Seivarden held out her bowl of popcorn to Amaya.

"So, how was your weekend?"

"Oh, sure," Amaya snorted. "You don't want to talk about yours, but you're perfectly fine asking after mine! Well, luckily, I don't mind, because it was pretty uneventful, other than maybe almost being crumbled by the Crumbler at one point and being called a nerd by some kid in a boat and nearly losing my glasses about fifty times. So pretty much par for the course for my eight year old self."

"A nerd? Not Rosa? What was she doing on a boat?"

Rosa was the one calling people nerds, after all.

"No, not Rosa," Amaya had to laugh a little at that. "I didn't get that particular honor of runnning into her. I'm pretty sure it was Duke, considering it was Duke's boat that he was on and claiming to be his own since the owner was no where in sight. Which just makes me wonder why I didn't go and think the same thing about the shop, especially considering it's even got my name on it."

Well, to be fair, little Amaya had been pretty distracted at the time.

"At least you survived the Crumbler," Seivarden observed, actually a little relieved.

"Not for a lack of trying, though!" Amaya noted, almost with a note of disappointment. "All the sharpened bits were softened up for the weekend. On the Crumbler as well as on all the weapons, probably the island's way of preventing at least a little bodily harm at the hands of all us weetiny miscreants."

"Considering how fond everyone here is of swords I'd say that's a good thing."

She'd had a water gun.

...awwww.

"I wouldn't be surprised if at least a few of them would still know how to properly use them," Amaya noted, "even if they were five years old, but I would not be one of them."

Technically speaking, she really couldn't use a sword that well now, at least not comparatively, but she also figured you didn't really need to be that good, you just had to stick 'em with the pointy end.

She prefered bludgeoning weapons, anyway.

"I heard even some of the children from other universes that showed up knew how to use weapons."

Or maybe she had just been very worried about Etnys getting hold of something and hurt herself.

She really shouldn't think about Etnys.

"And some of them knew how to make weapons, too," Amaya said, her tone going a bit dry for a moment, because she hardly wanted to think about Djodge...or Zephyr, for that matter!...either. "Just goes to show, I guess, that sharp pointy things are going to essentially be a factor about this place no matter which way you look at it. Or, at least, I certainly hope so, considering that's pretty much my whole business."

Which was in a bit of slump these days.

Not that she was worried, or anything...

"I'm just objecting to selling sharp things to children," Seivarden said, ignoring Amaya's first observation.

Wonder why the reverse never happens to the kids here.

He's here and glad to be himself again.
