Caritas- Tuesday- New Year's Eve Party

It was New Year's and Kitty had to work! Obviously there might as well be a party, right? The bar still had Christmas lights up so at least it looked pretty, but other than the traditional hats, noisemakers, and obnoxious 2020 glasses available both in the door and in the back room because this was festive, the place wasn't that decorated.

But there was plenty of food and drink available, and Kitty would be at the bar or playing hostess, whichever was needed, and the TV was on so everyone could watch the ball drop.

Tino was still not allowed to dress up as the New Year's baby. You were all safe.

Moddable food is set up, drinks are available at the bar or by Tino taking your order, and the TV is set to whatever Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve is now, I honestly have no idea. Go mingle!

There's a champagne toast at midnight, a countdown, and then WE'RE DONE WITH THIS YEAR.

Also you can make out with someone if you want.

My original plans didn't happen and my backup plans require me getting back to the suburbs after the busiest work day of my year so I'll at least be home and pinging!

Rey had gotten through the year! She actually felt like this was a good thing to mark, so she'd come down. She got a soda and found a place to stand and watch everyone, or at least where she could frown at whatever was happening on the TV if no one was doing anything interesting.

When you were as old as SHunsui, sometimes the idea of marking years instead of decades or centuries seemed a little quaint and micromanage-y, but he always did have a particular fondness for all the fuss and celebration (and drinking and kissing) that went along with New Years in particular. And, really, parties in general, so of course he'd have to make an appearance. He'd even gotten into the spirit of things by eschewing his usual captain's robes for a more traditional kimono, though, of course, he still had his pink flowery haori, too.

And, of course, he'd also brought his sake. BUT, in his defense, this actually was traditional for New Years, so there was a reason for it other than just that he was, you know, that guy.

Octavia hadn't dressed up any for this party, the same as she didn't for any others. But she had left her hair unbraided. Read into that what you will.

She had a beer in hand, to start with. There'd be time for other kinds of drinks later, if she decided to stick around.

"You did make it," Rey greeted her.

"I made it," Octavia confirmed, saluting Rey with her beer. Though just barely - she wasn't yet in the more animated part of the evening. "Happy New Year. Isn't that what we're supposed to say?"

With two different parties going on in the bars in town, Amaya figured it would be difficult for her to get away with not socializing tonight, and, if anything, these sorts of things sometimes did open up some good business opportunities, of which she was sorely in need of these days. So the real issue was just which one. And while Amaya was tempted to just stick with the Devil's Nest because it didn't have Shunsui in it, it was all done up a liiiiiittle too fancy for her blood, and she realized she'd just feel awkward in that crowd. But Caritas was familiar and comfortable, and parties were still enough out of her comfort zone (although she was much better about it, these days), that she stuck with it and was there with a beer and dedication to not be too much of a wallflower if she could help it.

"Happy new year. Even though it's still technically the old year," Rey said. "This is at least easier to understand than the last holiday."

Though she'd actually liked this last holiday.

Octavia's Candlenights-Christmas had been pretty nice this year. This one still made a little more sense to her, too.

"Mmhmm," she hummed her agreement. "Though I'm pretty sure this is the first of these parties I've made it to."

Shunsui was going to wind up feeling like quite the fluttering social butterfly if the crowd remained as it was so far, with a particular lean toward those more content to sit and watch above anything else, but he certainly didn't mind. And he'd be absolutely loathe to see a pretty yet unfamiliar face and not flutter that way.

"Why, hello ♥," he said, greeting her brightly with a small duck of his head. "Looks like there may be a little more luck in store for me yet this year, as I do not believe I've had the pleasure ♥. Tell me, my dear," his smile went just a bit more warm and playful, "are in a bartering mood this evening ♥?"

"Same. Though till this year I avoided everything unless Summer threw it," Rey admitted.

Karolina had actually had a pretty damn good year, personally speaking. But that just meant she was all the more willing to show up to see it off with people! In a yellow mini dress, with heels. Which meant legs for days, yes, you were welcome.

She had some kind of a tropical drink in hand, and a smile on her face. 2019 had been good to her, but bring on 2020.

Was Beau all set to heckle the people on TV again this year, comfortably situated in a booth with drinks? Hell yes, she was.

She still thought Earth years were weirdly long, but she was sort of getting used to that now, having been here for more than one already. And what an eventful year it had been, huh?

There had better be time for at least one other kind of drink, or else Shunsui would be terribly put out. When he said he had a special sake just for the occasion, he actually meant it this time around.

"~Octaaaavia~chaaaan~~ ♥ ♥ ♥!" he sang out when he saw her, fluttering over with a grin that was absolutely shameless over the greeting or in leaning closer once he'd gotten over to her to deliver the next part in a...slightly less ostentatious fashion. "Yoi otoshi o, sukoshi kanashimi no hato ♥!"

"That depends on what bartering means here," Rey said slowly.

Big surprise, Beau definitely appreciated that outfit! Yellow was not her favorite color, but she never minded it on Karolina.

"Have I mentioned you look fuckin' hot? Because you do."

Yes, Beau. You had. Repeatedly.

A very wise question to ask, really, and Shunsui grinned to have heard it, as he was hoping for a response just like that as it lead perfectly into the next part.

"A very straightfoward barter, in this case, I assure you ♥" he said. "A simple exchange, of your name for mine ♥. I even have some very special New Years sake to sweeten the deal a little."

As if he wasn't planning on foisting cups of it on nearly anyone with hands enough to hold it.

"Yeah, me too for the most part," Octavia admitted after a beat to consider it. "Except I don't know who the hell Summer is."

Duke's idea of dressing up was to put an ill-fitting velvet blazer on over his usual beachy layers (seriously, this was what he wore to court, too). But he was wearing the hell out of that blazer today as he grabbed a beer from the bar and headed to the backroom to see how Fandom did New Years.

It so far looked . . . deeply normal. It was actually slightly disappointing.

"Chit daun sei?" Octavia replied without missing a beat, raising her eyebrows just a little.

Her lips were a lopsided, tiny smirk.
