So it turned out running a diner was not all catch of the day specials and bantering with his staff. The end of the year had come with all sorts of financial paperwork and accounting to get done, which apparently none of his predecessors had ever properly outsourced. Not that he blamed them; he'd never been all that trusting of money guys, either. He was generally much more of a "stuff bills into the mattress" kind of business man.
"Seriously?" he asked, staring despairingly at the pile of forms he'd unearthed after spreading the paperwork out on one of the corner tables. "You all need W-2s? Why can't you get paid under the table like a proper restaurant staff?!"
