That one warehouse that's gotten tricked out- Friday afternoon

When she got in, Rey had started to make sure the remote by the door was disabled, and then decided midway through to just reprogram it as part of the course today, she hated the remotes, but she liked a challenge, and it would be good to run through this around whatever today's actual training was.

She was getting better at this, at least in little ways. She was faster, less concerned with being cautious, which also meant she had to improvise a little more. Like when things swung at her and she dove under them rather than dealing with them outright. And maybe she really regretted letting the door remote harass her while she was on ropes hanging from the rafters. The important thing was, she hadn't sent it flying into a wall yet.

So if you needed Rey, she was around.

Duke, for one, was quite glad that remote had been redirected. Since he was swinging by and didn't have any Force senses to protect him and all.

"That . . . is a hell of an obstacle course."

"He had fun with this," Rey said, still going until she found a good spot to hop off the course. Most of it was up higher, and while eventually she'd be doing the full superhero landing, right now she was just determined not to shatter her ankles.

Yeah, Duke couldn't help but suck in a worried breath, even trusting that she knew what she was doing on the dismount, there.

He was definitely going to have to get her floating.

"And are you also having fun with it?"

Rey waited until she'd jumped off- safety, from no higher than she would have tried on Jakku- to say, "Yeah," like she was admitting something she shouldn't. "It's an insane version of some stuff I used to do."

[betterthanaplan]

"Good. No point in an obstacle course that isn't fun as well as a challenge. You're not in the Marines or something."

[thatwaslucky]

"That's a... water army thing?" Rey checked.

Somehow she'd never needed to know that.

[betterthanaplan]

"Yeah, basically. They're, like, half-Army, half-Navy, I think. They definitely think they're special. And they run a lot of really grueling obstacle courses."

Or did in media, anyway. Duke hadn't ever paid that much attention to the real thing.

"Hmm. Maybe I'll look at that when I get bored of this," Rey said. "...It'll be a while. The tightrope is still a little iffy."

Because if course there was a tightrope.

[betterthanaplan]

". . . Yeah, honestly, I think you'd probably find theirs kind of boring. It's all, like, crawling through mud carrying 50 pounds of gear and stuff."

"All right, maybe that's not for me," Rey said, looking up at the course. "I kind of like being up high, anyway."

[betterthanaplan]

"This thing definitely gives you that, then," Duke said. "I'm gonna have to start making you do yoga on a balance board or something. Stacked onto a tower of rocks."

"That sounds like a good way to have to take me to the clinic," Rey teased.

...Give her a couple months, anyway.

[betterthanaplan]

"Possibly," Duke agreed. "Or it might force you to learn to float. . . ."

[thatwaslucky]

"You really want me to do that," she laughed.

[betterthanaplan]

"Well sure," Duke said. "I'm never going to be able to fly, so I might as well live vicariously through you."

[thatwaslucky]

"I can levitate you. Also, it's Fandom, you never know."

How long since there'd been a powers swap?

[betterthanaplan]

"Ah, but you holding me up isn't exactly me flying, is it?" Duke shook his head. "And I still say if you can levitate me, you should definitely be able to levitate you."

She could already hold herself upright when trying out a new yoga pose. Picking herself up wholesale shouldn't be that different, right?

"Should be able to, can't in practice yet," Rey said. "I'm working on it."

[betterthanaplan]

"I know," Duke told her. "We just have to figure out how to shift your paradigm."

[thatwaslucky]

"Part of how I figured out how to get better at jumps was just because I got bored one day," she said, helpfully.

[betterthanaplan]

"Oh, so I should try boring you, then." Duke nodded, then gave her a wry smile. ". . . Yeah, not sure I can do that."

"That would not work out. I'm pretty sure you boring me would mean we don't hang out."

And that was not allowed.

"Or possibly that I've been replaced by a pod-person. Which should be a joke, but I really can't assume that'll never happen around here, can I?"

[thatwaslucky]

"You really can't," Rey agreed. "Should that happen, though, please skip it."

[betterthanaplan]

"I will do my best," Duke promised. "Being a pod-person is not exactly high on my bucket list."
