Furnado Animal Shelter Thursday [01/06].
"Wait, no, Boots! Hold still! Just one sec--hey! Wait! Socks! Come back with that! I need that!"
One would think that a few weeks wrangling birds into hats would prepare Prompto better for this sort of thing, but it appeared as though his attempts to take measurements of all the puppies and their heads for their Puppy Bowl helmets was turning out to be quite the event in and of itself. Between puppies that would rather lick his face and squirm around than stay still and a pair of cats who kept sneaking off with his tape measure, Prompto was going to be fully convinced to scratch 'Animal Fashion Designer' off his list of potential careers to pursue in case this whole Crownsguard thing fell through.
Which waas kind of a bummer. If you couldn't have a job that was super cool, it would have been nice to have one that was super cute.
"Buddy! No! Those are my notes, not food!"
Furnado is open!

"Looks like you've got this all under control."
no subject
"Oh, yeah," he murmured with a slight groan. "Totally."
Cue the dog prancing by with the measuring tape trailing from its mouth like a ribbon and the small army of kittens that went scrambling after it.
no subject
"The important thing is you're having fun."
Sabine was a brat.
no subject
He looked up at Sabine witheringly, trying his best to not look pathetic about it, but probably not doing a very good job. "I don't think this'll work, Sabine," he commiserated. "They don't seem to like the helmet idea very much."
They actually didn't really care. They actually had no idea what Prompto had been on about. They actually thought it was all just some new, fun game.
no subject
She was two seconds from sitting on the floor too to try and helmet a puppy.
no subject
"I haven't even gotten to the helmets!" he told her. "I'm still in the taking measurements phase so we even know how big the helmets should be!"
Just at the moment, one of the puppies trotted up with one of Prompto's pencils in its mouth, dropped the pencil in his lap, looked up proudly at him...and then plopped itself in Prompto's lap on top of the pencil.
"Awww," he said, his hand immediately lifting for ear scritches, but his voice exuding exhaustion, "thanks, buddy..."

"It's, like, just a little bit smaller," he said, forming a little helmet shape with his hand over the dog's head now, and he laughed. "Sabine! That's kind of brilliant! What dog is gonna say no to head pats, right?"
no subject
She drew too-big heads on her more cartoony drawings on purpose for that reason.

"I feel a little bad sneak attacking them, if I'm honest," said Prompto, "but I can definitely see how it might be more effective."

Alluka didn't know if she wanted a fish, exactly, but…
She wanted something.
Either way, she paused in the doorway, eyes going big. Though she'd graduated and owned a business now, Alluka still looked like she was about… eleven. A small eleven at that.
And one that was pretty dressed up.
"Um?"
no subject
"Um," he answered back.
And then remembered he was here for more than just sowing chaos.
"Err, hi! Welcome to Furnado! How can I help?"
Please don't mind the dogs passing by just then, fighting over a notebook that did not have much longer to live, by the looks of it.
Or the fact that he looked like he was the one who needed the most help.
no subject
"Are, are you okay?" she wondered, stepping in and shutting the door behind her so that no one could escape.
no subject
Answering that he wasn't really sure didn't seem like the best choice, so Prompto took a moment to look around for inspiration for a better answer.
"They've been a little...rambunctious today," he admitted, while the kitten in his hand meowed a little and he realized she had gotten herself even more wrapped up in the measuring tape. Carefully, he attempted to try and unravel her. "We've been...trying to get some measurements, but they are not having it."
no subject
Alluka. Honey.
He was supposed to be helping you.

Alluka considered the kitten at her feet.
"Fur is probably a bad idea?" she ventured, even though they were awfully cute. "We used to have a fish, but Milady went off on space adventures and I'm not sure where she is these days."

handwaveyhours just trying not to drool over stuff he knew he shouldn't be spending money on and sometimes sending pictures to Ignis hoping that maybe if he could get Iggy to agree that, yes, he did look quite good in that, and it would make sense for him to present himself well as a future Crownsguard..."Pixie Dust, though? When did that happen? Have I not been paying attention?"
But he was getting distracted, and he shook his head.
"Never mind," he said, brushing it off for later. "Pets first! I totally get what you mean about the hair, because that's just going to get all over the clothes. I've got a friend who has a hairless cat, buuuuuuuuuuut I think we can maybe go toward something a little les...." Ugly? "conventional."
Please ignore the he was the one who got that friend that cat, but also let's not ignore that he did not pick that cat out.
"There's some cute geckos and stuff? I'm not really much of a lizard guy, so I probably wouldn't recommend, like, iguanas or anything, but we've got lots if you're into that. Turtle are cute, but they've got one of those at Turtle & Canary. But we have a ton of fish, and they're all well taken care of, we clean the fishtanks pretty much every other week around here!"
Nice subtle 'we' there, Prompto, as if it wasn't all just Sidon.
He tried to think of more fur-less animals, but they just kept getting worse.
"Snakes?" he ventured, even though he didn't want to. "I mean, snakes could...kind of make sense. Like, buying new clothes is like shedding an old skin for a new one! But that's, like, also kind of gross, and I've be super worried about it curling up in, like, someone's new shoes or something and no one finding out until it's way too late..."
Look, he didn't get to actually do the 'adopting pets' part of his job nearly enough, and even though this girl looked like she was about eleven so he'd have to eventually probably get to the whole, 'okay, so what do your parents think about all this?' part eventually, figuring it out for now was way more fun.
And a good distraction from uncooperative puppies!
no subject
Admittedly, cute was in the eye of the beholder and all...
She giggled. "Ah! It actually used to be named Pixie Dust and then someone else changed the name to Demon Marcus and it just recently," like, yesterday, "changed it's name back..."
no subject
But, again, very hard to think of cute and no fur working together very well, in his opinion.
"Yeah," he said, "I definitely missed that," because it happened yesterday, "but I like Pixie Dust as a name way better."
You know, what with his whole daemon thing.
"What about feathers? Bringing birds into the mix gives us a lot more room in the cute department, and feathers aren't as clingy as fur?"
no subject
Alluka had... never... really taken care of anything before.
no subject
Yeah, birds might definitely be out.
"Are you mostly going to be taking care of it yourself, then?" Prompto asked, wanting to ask if her parents were going to be helping, but he definitely knew that could be a fast track to Awkwardville, bringing up parents with anyone this island.
Also, she was asking about a store pet, and he was tryingn to wrack his brain in remember who owned that store, and whether or not they even had kids, but if he couldn't even remember who it was, then he definitely wouldn't remember that.
The suuuuuper cute dress was starting to make, like, so much sense, though.
no subject
And no one wanted Nanika to take care of something. No one.
Alluka wrinkled her nose a bit. "But definitely no birds then."
no subject
But NOT MICE.
SORRY, MICE.
"They can be pretty easy to take care of, too."
no subject
"Are they cute?" she asked doubtfully.
no subject
He was bringing the kitten with him.
The kitten was still wrapped in measuring tape.
no subject
"Are there lots of choices?" Alluka asked, skipping a little as she trailed behind him, being careful not to step on any cuties that might be out and about.
