The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

The pillow forts had been... a challenge. They weren't exactly nightclubby, after all.

But Lucifer had had them dressed up with fairy lights - the expensive, fancy kind - and that, at least, lent them some kind of... panache.

Look, shut up. He was trying. In fact, he wasn't even at the piano today: the gremlin big band set the ambiance much better tonight. All it had taken was some bribes and a red-eyed glare about the whole 'biting humans' thing, and they were good to go, playing an assortment of classic tunes and pop covers.

The Devil's Nest was open.

"You have those blanket piles here too," Seivarden said as she approached the bar.

"Issa loves them."

Because she was a cat.

"Yes, they are rather harshing my vibe in here," Lucifer sighed, sipping from his drink.

Octavia was already pretty used to the pillow forts. But the gremlin big band? That was new, and the obvious thing that caught her attention as soon as she made it in through the door.

"Right."

You'd think after the ever-present zombies at Caritas she wouldn't have been fazed, but no dice.

Seivarden leaned in to kiss him.

"There aren't many children around to play with them."

"Or cats, thankfully," Lucifer said, tilting his head into the kiss.

"They are oddly charming, aren't they?" Lucifer said, moving smoothly towards her with a grin on his face.

"Wouldn't be my first choice of word," Octavia replied in a drawl as she looked over. ('Charming' didn't much feature in her vocabulary in the first place, though.) "Hey, Lucifer."

"How are gremlins preferable to cats?" Seivarden asked, then leaned against the bar and ordered a glass of champagne from Tiny.

"They actually behave, if you glare at them long enough," Lucifer said practically, glancing their way.

"Hello, miss Octavia," Lucifer said, coming to a stop in front of her. "What can I get Tiny to get for you?"

"So does Issa."

That wasn't true.

"I'm going to blame you if they bite me."

She grinned.

"You are welcome to blame me as much as you want," Lucifer said, making a grand gesture with his drink before he returned it to his mouth. "After I'm finished laughing, of course."

"You'd laugh at me?"

Seivarden sipped her champagne, not looking too insulted.

Octavia considered the question for a few seconds, looking up at him.

Then she shrugged one shoulder. "I'm open to suggestions."

Sooo, the timing had actually worked out perfectly for Summer, who figured the end of St. Patrick's Week was the best time to finally swing by the Devil's Nest, because it also meant she'd been to Caritas before swinging around, which worked double-fold. It meant she'd already had a few drinks to not only get out of her own head a little bit, but a solid Caritas pregame meant she wouldn't be left completely in the lurch if she still couldn't actually drink in here.

Like, sure, yeah, she wanted to have faith, or whatever, but she also wasn't about to give her hopes up, and had been mostly prepared to be disappointed (on several levels, actually, for that matter), which is why she'd been putting it off. But this at least gave her a comfortable excuse, because it just made sense, didn't it, to end St. Patrick's Week with a visit to at least both bars on the island...

Ugh. She was starting to think she should have had at least one more at Caritas.

Cait was a cat—or, at least, a plush sentient one as far as anyone else was concerned (aside from his real boss, who knew better)—and he was loving these blankets.

Which would explain why, rather than at the bar, he was lounging on a pile of blankets, cheerfully disarranging the lights that had been so carefully strewn about so that he was more comfortable.

He looked pretty snazzy, if he said so himself—and he did, to a few patrons who asked—as he took a few selfies on his PHS to send back home. The lights dangling off his shoulders really added oomph to his cape and crown.

Hail to the King, peons!

"Gremlin bites are supposed to be hilariously funny," Lucifer said, grinning. "Of course I'd laugh."

"Well, we can stay with your usual and make a bourbon Old Fashioned," Lucifer mused, "Or go somewhere wildly different with tequila or a good bottle of port..."

"Miss Smith!" Lucifer greeted brightly. "And what brings you here? Not our sadly still age-restricted alcohol, I hope."

"Catsit," Lucifer greeted, strolling past the... moving, pile of blankets. "What drink can Tiny get you?"

He poked his head out, lights dangling off one of the peaks of his crown to grin up at Lucifer.

"Lucy, mah loon!" Never you mind that Lucifer was much, much older than Cait Sith was. "Tiny can gie me somethin' green an' umbrella'd, thenk ye kindly!"

"Still?"

Well, there was one disappointment out of the way, and at least that was out of the way front and center, like ripping off a Band-Aid, and Summer realized that she really had gotten her hopes up and couldn't help a small, crestfallen moue.

Which wasn't to say she wouldn't at least make an effort, although it was partially to help her stave off getting around to what she figured would be the second disappointment.

"Even at the end of St. Patrick's Week?"

"Sadly, yes," Lucifer said.

His fingers slid into his pocket for his flask. "Of course, if you have something non-alcoholic you want to order, I'm sure we'll be able to improve the flavor."

"Ooh, should I bust out the old green fairy?"

Lucifer, no, you had no idea what that might do to a cat.

Well, really, that just sounded intriguing…
