The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

It wasn't the first time this one rang through the Devil's Nest on a Tuesday, but-- honestly-- sometimes there was a time and a place and the music just needed to be what it was.

The gremlin big band was still in the house, backing him up.

"And in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me: speaking words of wisdom, let it be. Let it be, let it be..."

The Devil's Nest was open, and the devil was at the piano.

Amaya was mostly just here for the axes; things had been a little too quiet around the shop for her liking and she was still angling to get Eric to cave and replace all the current axes with brand new shiny ones from her, and she figured she'd make a better case if she could point out exactly what might be wrong with any of the current lot. But that didn't mean she couldn't make a little room for a distraction to offer credit where credit was due, and just hope the conversation could be steered away from certain...attributes this time.

She was a bit naive in that respect sometimes, yes.

"You're not half bad at that," she noted with a nod to Lucifer and the piano after getting herself a drink, on her eventual way to the axes, with the faint grin of a person who didn't know much music beyond the unbeatable clank and clatter of a hammer on steel.

The axes were rather more Eric's style than Lucifer's. They were still there, of course, but Lucifer rarely called any attention to them on his club nights.

"I'm rather more than not half bad, thank you," Lucifer sniffed, "but thank you. And good evening, dearest blacksmith."

Amaya actually wasn't sure she'd ever set foot in here if not for the axes, to be honest...

She snorted a little at the response, though, and the idea that anything regarding her should be considered dearest anything. "And to you," she said, wanting to add a little pianist epithet herself, but she couldn't really think of a good counter to dearest. "How's things? Besides, err...musical?"

Lucifer threw around nicknames very easily and had a whole range of alliterative plays on 'blacksmith' he enjoyed deploying about her. Not to her face so far, though.

"Can't complain, other than the whole 'small town, still boring' issue," Lucifer said, grinning. "I was thinking about hiring the gremlins full-time, keep this place lively."

All of which might just lead Amaya to just point out that people did have perfectly good names that could be used...

"Not sure if 'lively gremlins' would be what I'd consider a draw," she had to admit, now eyeing the gremlin bad a bit speculatively, "but, then again, I know I'm not exactly among the typical clientele for this place, either."

"I have an agreement with them. No biting," Lucifer specified, grinning.

Amaya's dubious look was now shifting toward Lucifer.

"You're a far more trusting person than I, then," she noted wryly.

But she had a distinct feeling that this was because Amaya was, indeed, at least once bitten....

"Well, I'm also immune to their bites," Lucifer pointed out easily. "That helps."

The withering look Amaya now possessed had a very distinctly envious hue to it.

"But I'd be willing to bet quite a few shiny gold coins," she observed, "that most of your customers aren't."

And now she felt she had even less of a reason to trust the apparent agreement.

"No," Lucifer agreed, "Which is why I've loudly threatened the little buggers. Honestly."

Octavia was not often the piano-approaching person, but guess she was making an exception tonight.

She also already had a brandy in hand from Tiny by the time she drifted over.

"Any Jane's Addiction?"

"Miss Octavia," Lucifer greeted, grin blindingly big. "Is that a request I hear?"

Octavia's tiny lopsided something was nothing next to that grin.

Still there, though.

"It would seem that way, doesn't it?"

"Well, I suppose I could play the obvious," Lucifer mused, "Or something slightly else."

He played a little sequence of notes.

"What do you consider 'the obvious'?" Octavia wondered, her gaze immediately drawn down to his hands. "Don't think this is it."

"Obvious would be 'Jane Says'," Lucifer said. "Obviously."

His fingers kept moving. It wasn't exactly a sophisticated song; he could play this without thinking.

"Huh," Octavia replied softly. "For me it's 'Been Caught Stealing'."

But she may have had personal reasons for that. She took a sip from her glass and swayed just a tiny bit, vaguely in time with the music. "I guess that one's not much of a piano song, though."
