The Perk, Saturday afternoon
Duke was followed into the Perk by a parade of porgs.
"Yeah, I don't know," he told the barista. "I think they've got some sort of attachment disorder now or something. Could I get a large latte and . . ." He looked down at the lead porg. "I don't know, you all want a croissant or something? Yeah, let's get a couple chocolate croissants. Thanks."
He took his order -- and his parade of porgs -- to the outdoor tables and sat down, tossing a few pieces of croissant for the flock.
"I am absolutely becoming the weird bird guy of the island, aren't I."
There were worse fates.

First, there was a picture of her hand resting against her bent knee and holding drumsticks, with a part of her drum kit visible in the corner of photo.
Then there was a screencap of Spotify open on her phone, showing she was listening to Metallica's For Whom the Bell Tolls.

ready to rock out huh?

Sorry, neighbors.
Have you taken the porgs on a tour of the town?
no subject
He’d just stopped trying to lose them when he went out.
someday you’ll have to let me see you drum

He was likely to disagree, and she knew it.

Was she rolling her eyes? She was totally rolling her eyes, wasn't she.

She was also sending him a selfie of her very best, wry 'bitch please' look. (Some of her hair clung to her forehead with sweat. It should come as no surprise that she approached her drumming the same way she did most other physical things: go hard or go home.)

ooo, special AND hot. I definitely need to see this in person

If you want to drop by later or something i'm not against it

And then there was poor Shunsui, whose bedroom was directly below hers.

I think this is a plan then! I haven’t done enough drumming lately

I'll be here

She could wait just fine, though. As he would eventually find out when she wouldn't immediately hear the door.
Such was drumming!

She eventually got a text of him sitting in the hallway, his drum between his knees, Polly perched on top.
Look, porgs were tenacious, okay?

Didn't take very long at all before she was at the door, looking much like she had in her earlier picture although she'd pulled her hair (braids and all) back into a messy ponytail.
"Ha yun, strikon," she told the porg, before turning her amused gaze on Duke. "En ha yun, bigon," she continued, already reaching a hand out to help him up. "Were you waiting long?"
no subject
From the hallway. Where he'd been able to hear her just fine.

(Seriously, pity her neighbors.)
"Thanks," Octavia replied with a little huff, because such was her way with compliments. She nodded him -- them in. "Polly's about to get a rare privilege. We don't usually let porgs in the apartment."
Porgs had never before tried to get into the apartment in the first place.

Polly scratched at the drum head with one foot.
"If you tear that thing, you're going to be meat."
Well, no. Duke would probably just pout a lot.
no subject
"Think this might also be the first time either of you are visiting my bedroom," she added idly but no, she knew so.

"Are you trying to be funny?"
She was not that predictable! (She was absolutely that predictable.)
no subject
She was absolutely that predictable.

He hadn't been too far off the mark. The two main features of the room were her bed (narrow and patently unluxurious) and her drum set (shiny and well-maintained). However, there was also a bookcase that housed various things: a couple of books, some of her knives, three potted plants (with the weird blue one that looked vaguely like a mushroom placed away from the other two), and a small figurine carved from wood, vaguely in the shape of a woman.
Her sword was leaning against the wall by the bed, of course.
"Well, here we are."
