The shop, it seemed, was preparing itself for Mother's Day coming up, and Astrid, who was wondering if she could maybe take an extended vacation until after it was over, wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. She didn't think about this when she'd decided to come back to her job at Covent Garden, she already had a few letters from her mother she was actively ignoring, and she couldn't look at a floral arrangement right now without thinking about what Claire would have liked, and that sent an ache in her chest so profound she almost couldn't breathe.

So she found she could make herself feel a little better by going around the shop and removing all the signs that reminded customers about Mother's Day, removing even the smallest bits of evidence she could find, and throwing them in a trash bag behind the counter.

Sure, the shop seemed to just manifest new ones out of nowhere almost immediately after she removed them, but it gave her something to focus on and it actually made her feel a little better, being able to defiantly fight that battle, even though it was clearly one she would lose.
