The park- Friday afternoon

Right, so Rey didn't know about this today. The warehouse had some light from the outside, but it was mostly dark, which made it cooler, which also meant it had that gross, stuffy, closed-in quality to it, and she couldn't get rid of that without opening the door and letting hot air in. She found a woodchuck that she'd thought was hurt or sick, but it turns out it had just flopped and waved her off before throwing something at her.

So Rey was in the park under a tree for shade, and had texted Anakin to let him know she was here. She didn't think it was so bad right here, but she was used to the heat, and she'd even managed to work a bedsheet into something that vaguely looked like her usual clothes, so it kept her covered while letting her breathe.

Some people adapt easily.

"I don't think anyone does," Anakin said a little wryly.

"Well, no," she said. "But when you're open about things maybe it can't be used against you."

"Or maybe they just won't find out those things," Anakin tried.

"I've had people completely in my head," Rey pointed out. "Maybe that works for other people. I don't think it gets to work for me."

Anakin nodded. "I've spent a lot of time on mental shielding. When you have the past I do and an island like this with the occasional telepath--I don't need to terrify children."

"And I can see why you don't want that getting out," she said.

[sith_happened]

Anakin nodded vehemently. "It would be disastrous."

[thatwaslucky]

"Yeah," Rey nodded. "That's why I haven't said anything to Leia yet, either. I don't know the repercussions for anyone. I don't want to make anything worse."

"I don't want to feel like I'm dodging responsibility," Anakin said.

[thatwaslucky]

She nodded again, and crinkled her nose. "It's complicated."

[sith_happened]

"Extremely," Anakin agreed. "Multiple timelines and galaxies and people's lives interacting."

[thatwaslucky]

"I don't know how you keep it all straight," Rey admitted.

[sith_happened]

"There are spreadsheets," Anakin said, smiling ruefully. "Rory's rubbed off on me."

[thatwaslucky]

"That doesn't sound like a bad plan," she said, even though she barely knew what a spreadsheet was. "It was odd to realize that the lightsaber I'm carrying has belonged to three people on this island, and that doesn't even include my universe. There's just so much."

Which made it funner.

Anakin's smiled widened. "I've met the same few grandchildren in a number of different universes. At least yours is different."

"And yet, not entirely different," Rey said, shaking her head. "Just enough similarities to keep things confusing."

[sith_happened]

"Well, any galaxy with a Luke and a Leia at least has a fighting chance," Anakin said.

[thatwaslucky]

"Hopefully," she said, also hoping she didn't sound as unsure about that as she felt.

"Definitely," Anakin said firmly.
