Well, this week had proven to be mostly benign as compared to last week. Which was why Tony wasn't too put out when a tiger had given him an egg sushi costume while he'd gone out for a walk earlier in the day.

Because that was a normal thing to do.

He leaned back in his chair behind the counter of the shop and frowned down at a tablet, sorting through some things from home to decipher new information.

Steve had been giving Tony some space after the last weekend's unintentional revelations. Well, this Tony, at least. The other Tony had all but tossed him out of the Tower after Steve told him about what had really happened to his parents.

He came in with a huge coffee for Tony and set it down on the counter with a slightly shy smile, then made to head back out of the shop.

"Thanks," Tony said, making to reach for him before pulling back. And then trying again to touch Steve's arm for that.

Steve stopped his retreat and smiled a little more widely. "Hi."

"C'mere," he said, tugging Steve in for a hug. Still holding his coffee in one hand, mind you.

Steve curled around him, holding on tightly.

"I'm sorry about this week," Tony murmured into Steve's shoulder.

"You needed time," Steve said. "I get that."

Tony let out a sigh, pulling back to look him in the eye. "What about you?"

Steve's jaw clenched. "It was the right thing to do, but he's going to hate me for a while."

"Maybe," Tony granted him, putting the coffee down so he could cup Steve's face with both hands. "Maybe just what you represent. It'll take time."

Time that they had now!

Much better than having it sprung on him in a warehouse full of dead super-soldiers!

"Should I write him a note?"

NO. And no fliphones, Steven.

Maybe if Tony was allowed to proof read your dumb, dumb notes?

Tony smiled at that old-fashioned suggestion. "If he's like me--and he mostly is--he's focused on something. Only an in person visit will break through."

"Well, I'm not doing that unless he invites me," Steve said. "I did ask Rhodey to check in, though."

Tony punched his arm gently. "Alright. For now."

"How are you doing?" Steve asked. "Did you find anything?"

"Nothing definitive," he said with a sigh. "And I don't want to go up to Barnes and just ask 'Hey, did HYDRA have you kill my parents?'"

"He might not even remember," Steve said.

"Yeah," Tony agreed with another sigh. "It's a mess."

Steve squeezed Tony's hands. "I'm so sorry."

"Not your fault," Tony promised, pulling him into a kiss.

"Kind of my fault," Steve insisted.

"You just... found out. Like me."

[heroic_jawline]

"I should've read the reports faster," Steve decided.

Tony kissed him again. "You can't blame yourself for HYDRA's actions."

Oh, watch him, Tony.

"Maybe," Steve sort-of agreed.
