It was Sunday so your friendly neighborhood pirate was manning the bar at the Devil's Nest. He actually had showed up early due to a fit of melancholy over missing people back home and immediately came to drink those thoughts away. As a normal person did.

"Well, it is Sunday, so I'll have some rum," Lucifer said, settling into a seat by the bar with less of his usual cheer and more grump.

"You make things easy for me, I like that," Silver said, grabbing a second glass to fill.

[my_own_advocate]

"Well, I've been drinking scotch all week, a bit of variety won't kill me," Lucifer said. "And you do know your rum."

[long_memory]

"I do lean towards the good stuff if it's available," he agreed. "However I'd me lying if I said I didn't choke down the grog on a ship when I was truly desperate for a drink."

"Yes, one of the advantages of being in this day, age, and bar is that you don't have to settle for the subpar stuff unless you burned your tastebuds off and you can't tell the difference anyway," Lucifer said, reaching for his glass. "How has your week been, incidentally?"

"Can't complain," he said, draining his own glass before going to refill it again. "Watched an odd movie with Rey and Jaskier. It glorified the misery of a woman for some reason."

It was a Lifetime movie, Silver. That's what they did.

Short pause.

"Bad internet porn?"

"That probably would've been more enjoyable." Well. For him and Jaskier anyway. "But I don't believe Rey would tolerate that sort of movie night."

[my_own_advocate]

"All right, then what horrid thing did you watch?" Lucifer asked, taking a sip of his drink.

[long_memory]

"Well there was a woman whose mother I believe had cancer. Or maybe the woman had cancer. Or both did." He really only caught bits and pieces with all the rum he drank. "And for some reason instead of focusing on that she was more interested on choosing between two very boring men."

Lucifer squinted as he parsed that description, ran it through his head, and came out with, "Okay, you've either been watching depressing Oscar bait or Lifetime."

"How would I know the difference between the two?" he asked.

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer tilted his head as he tried to come up with a decent answer to that question.

"The Oscar ones tend to have better music."

[long_memory]

"It was definitely a Lifetime movie." Even Silver--who barely had any knowledge of the music of the last 300 years--knew that.

"Well, I hope you were drinking copiously," Lucifer said, eyebrows raised.

[long_memory]

"Oh god I think I went through an entire bottle of rum just during the movie," he said. "Thankfully I didn't have far to walk to get to my bed."

"It's just tragic," Lucifer said. "Friends don't make friends watch Lifetime."

He took a sip of his drink. "Though I can recommend preparing an emergency booze bag in case it happens again."

"I think we're going to make it a regular thing so I will have booze handy each time," Silver said. "Surely at some point we'll hit on a movie that isn't awful."

"I admire your inexplicably unrealistic optimism," Lucifer said. "Perhaps you should scout out a few movies yourself, just to be able to offer alternatives."

"I'll have to do some research," he agreed. "But there has to be good movies, why else would people keep making them?"

[my_own_advocate]

"Because lots of people enjoy watching utter swill?" Lucifer said, grinning.

[long_memory]

"You'd think people would be more discerning considering how much there is to do in this century," Silver said. "In my day it was pretty much drink, fight or fuck."

Of course there was the occasional outlier like Flint who counted books as part of his winnings when he commandeered a ship. The nerd.

"Because there's too much choice," Lucifer said sagely. "People get stuck trying to decide what to watch and wind up opting for something they don't have to use their exhausted brains for."

"Well that's just laziness," Silver said. "But I'm the one who watched that terrible movie so I suppose I shouldn't judge."

"Well, it was hardly your idea, was it?" Lucifer said. "Now, going back..."

He was teasing. Mostly.

"Going back solely for the company," he joked, lifting up his hands. "I'm trying to be neighborly."

"There are limits," Lucifer sighed. "Make them pay for your liquor, at least."
