Atlas Gym, Monday (8/24)

Was Beau being a little obnoxious with the swaggering when she walked in this morning, and continuing on throughout the rest of the day? Maybe a little bit, sure.

Okay, maybe considerably more than a little. bit, but look, it kind of felt like last week had left her displaying more vulnerability than she cared to (which was to say any at all around anyone at all, with the exception of Karolina) and she was super not a fan of that. Therefore, overcompensation time!

It was making some of the regulars eye her warily and give her a pretty wide berth, like they thought she was going to clip them with the way she was swinging her arms around.

... which, you know what, that was fair.

[OOC: I keep falling asleep and I don't even know if this whole scenario makes any sense, but et. Post/gym open!

Rey was fully intending to keep busy this week, which was what happened when you had too much to think about but knew your usual habit of repressing wasn't the right thing to do: you thought about it and then you distracted yourself.

Or at least, that's what she was doing.

And today, that meant the gym. "Morning."

This was a totally valid method of dealing (or not, technically) if you asked Beau. See, Rey, you totally fit in as an honorary member of the Mighty Nein.

"'sup, Rey," Beau said, nodding at her. "Here to hit things, or climb things, or are you gonna get like super fancy and do both at once?"

Which was probably against the gym rules but eh.

"Climb things," Rey decided after a short moment to decide. "Both at the same time is what I normally do and I'd rather not today."

"That's fair," Beau noted, nodding.

Then, playfully sarcastic, she added, "So like, I need to show you how to use the equipment, right?"

"I think I can figure it out," Rey said wryly. "So how are you doing?"

While knowing no one was going to answer that question honestly this week.

"I'm fine," Beau said almost immediately, with a snort and a wave of her hand. She was pretty sure Rey would know better anyway. "You doing okay?"

That question sounded a lot more sincere, at least. Not that she expected total honesty either.

"Could be worse," she said, which was true! She'd been worse on Friday. "I think it's just about getting through this week."

"Low expectations are more manageable," Beau agreed. "And I guess new kids show up this weekend? Man, how do they always just miss out on these things?"

Except for when the the new kids actually missing was one of those things, but in her defense she'd been gone for that one BB

"Well, last time they didn't and they all ran away," Rey said.

Some had come back.

"Wait, what?" Beau. That was the one where your girlfriend got kidnapped, remember?

...

"Ohhhhhh. Yeah. I was out of town for that one. To be fair I can't blame them for that."

"It's better that they miss it,l. They can ease into..." She blew out a breath. ...all this."

Beau made a face.

"Really not the kind of thing you want to dive into without warning," she said. "So ... surprisingly benevolent of the island to time things so they miss it, I guess."

"It's only a matter of time before something happens," Rey said. "I think last year I was here for a month- when I was a toy- before I ended up being an entirely different person for a weekend."

"So they're gonna get deluged eventually anyway," Beau decided. "I think I'd only been here a couple of days when there was a day where it was like ... the universe kind of broke a little? Like I'd just randomly go through walls or be ten feet away from where I'd been standing, and I ended up getting chased by a bunch of really angry chickens."

Rey paused. "I heard about most of the things while I was gone. I don't remember the chickens."

"Yeah, no, I think that one was just me," Beau said, shrugging. "Still on the tame side, all things considered. You'd been here before by that point though, right? So it wouldn't have been that much of a surprise?"

"Not really, no. Well. It still would have been a surprise, but one I would have gotten over quickly."

Because angry chickens.

"I have a hard time seeing you not adapt to a surprising situation quickly, to be honest," Beau remarked. "Like ... ever."

Rey might have argued that, but she also really couldn't?

"Well, I'd have to. Or I'd get rampaged by chickens," she explained.

"I didn't get rampaged," Beau (predictably) objected. "

She totally had.

"I didn't say you did, just that I was trying to avoid that," Rey tried.

Yeah, whoops, Beau had just totally played herself.

She cleared her throat.

"Yeah, see, I have no worries about you getting chicken-stomped."

How was this a thing that just came out of her mouth? Oh, Fandom.

But hey, you were getting the first real giggle out of Rey in days.

"Which," Beau added with a faint snicker of her own, "I feel I should note is kinda rougher than it sounds like."
