Turtle & Canary; Monday [08/24].
Summer half expected to get back to the island and find some stupid thing where all the freezers at T&C were on the fritz or something, just so it could meddle in her plans, but, thankfully, everything was working and running just fine, which was great, because melted ice cream would have probably have been just as bad if not worse that the sea of squishy and all its bees had been.
So up went a sign, and out went Summer to alternate between strolling the aisle to make her orders and camping out at the counter with her laptop as per usual, only this time she had herself a pint of ice cream ordered especially for her, because it just made sense to pick some up if she was going to go bananas on ordering a shit ton of other ice cream for the rest of the island, and who knew? Maybe one day it turned out that she wasn't actually the only one to appreciate the fine culinary addition that was flies in ice cream.
Look, if she had to relive the giant spider invasion of [Unnamed Planet] as many times as she did before heading home for the weekend, you better believe she was going to at least enjoy some of the benefits that trauma had afforded her.

So yes. He was coming in for Oreos and Kale chips again even though he didn't need the kale chips or even want Oreos.
"Oh. Hey Summer," he tried to say in a cool and even manner as he entered the store. "How are you doing?"
no subject
"Barry! Hi!"
And Summer, nudging the pint of ice cream away a bit, found herself stuck in that moment where you had sort of been hoping a thing would happen, and so you wound up planning out various scenarios of how it might go down, and then when that thing actually did happen, your mind just went blank and you couldn't remember any of them, or really just basic human functions, either, for that matter.
"I'm okay!" she finally managed, which, to her credit, had been one of the scenarios, albeit not exactly the most exciting and fanfictiony of them, but still! "How're you?"
no subject
Okay Barry, you're literally about to say the thing you were not trying to look like you were doing.
"Um. I would check in on you."
Damn it.
"And of course purchase supplies."
A horrible cover story. He's sticking with it.

"Yeaaahhhh," the scrunch of Summer's expression was a little apologetic, "I pretty much high tailed it back home after figuring out what was going on thanks to radio on Friday. I'm pretty sure no one needs to see the sort of shit that keeps me up at night, and one of my best friends is a pretty sensitive empath, I wasn't going to add to what she was already dealing with if I could help it."
Sorry for using you as a convenient excuse, Rey! But Summer didn't think she's mind, and it wasn't untrue, either. It was just way better than the fact that right now, she and Barry were at a really cute level of 'omg so fucked up', and she's kind of like to keep it at cute and not, you know, actually fucked up.
He was a vegetarian, and she'd had a cannibal phase when she was seventeen, for crying out loud. No need to expediate those kinds of conversations before they really even had a chance to have some real fun with it, right?
"Still kind of disappointed it was happy thoughts instead of, you know, ass kicking, but as long as it works out in the end. You seemed to have kept pretty busy with it, though..."
no subject
Barry shook his head in disbelief. "Keep in mind, I'm glad no one got hurt but the whole concept of using anecdotal evidence and 'happy' thoughts actually working was just too fucking weird for me," he admitted. "And getting off the island was probably a smart move. I kept myself locked up in the warehouse most of the time because nobody needs to see my shitty memories."
He shrugged, attempting to literally and figuratively shrug off the topic. "Did you do anything fun while you were home?"
no subject
Seriously, Tricia, what the actual hell?
"Tried to get the portal gun again, too," she added, "but as soon as I showed up, Gramla Rick cancelled his plans and put his lab on lockdown to make sure I didn't go snooping around, so that put a bust on that plan."
For the most part. She still poked around, she just had to be way more careful about it.
no subject
He shook that off. "Sorry your Grandpa was being a fucking dick though," he added. "If you need anything to break into his lab I may have some equipment that might be of use. Not that I would use any of it to do anything illegal."
He might be adding that for the squirrels benefit. "Speaking of equipment... I've got really nothing going on this week. If you want I could hook up those cannons on your ship some time. Plus there were a few things in the scrapyard I wanted to take a closer look at."
no subject
"That's be great, actually," she said. "Better sooner rather than later, right? Who knows when I might really need to use them."
no subject
"Right," Barry said his expression brightening a bit and then his shifted back in forth in thought. Oh. Wait. "But, um, that's not going to be a true date or anything, okay? Honestly I'm kind of fucked because it's going to be hard to top getting alien food and watching a sunset on a different planet. But I do have a plan. And I'll think you'll like it."
It had required hacking into a television network and paying off a few people but still... she'd probably like it.
no subject
But since they were on the topic now, Summer's grin softened a little with the eager, dancing hopeful ness of her eyes, which was sure to help to totally relieve him of the pressures of expectation and everything...
"So you have an idea?"
no subject
But he was definitely trying to act confident though his hesitation in responding might say differently. "Uh. Yes. An idea."
And then he just grinned mischievously. "But I'm not going to tell you what it is."
no subject
Well...some surprises. Most, even! If not for a few very solid pieces of outlying data...
"So, when is this going down?" she asked. "Or is that a surprise, too?"
no subject
And then another thought occurred to him. One that Roxie reminded him of earlier.
"OH! And, uh... dress comfortably; wear something you don't care about getting stains on and athletic shoes."
no subject
"I mean," she then added, doing a poor job of hiding a smirk, "I've got radio the next morning, but I can always pull a few favors if things go well..."
A.Hem.
no subject
He chuckled to himself.
"Sorry. I better stop talking before I give it away. Have the squishy lines been cleaned yet? I'm still interested in finding out what red tastes like."
no subject
"I'll make sure Apu gets it done this weekend," she said.
It had probably been done, since they talked about it. Summer just figured it would be a good way to get Barry to come in next week.
no subject
Barry however was now sneaking a look over at Apu and wondering why in the world he hadn't cleaned those lines. Really? Really, Apu?
"I guess I'll have to come by again to try that Squishy," Barry lamented. Not that he needed excuse. He could always claim that he needed more kale chips because... well, honestly he just threw them away. Those things were nasty.
no subject
For the time being, however, Apu caught that look and was now giving Summer a look over Barry's shoulder that seemed to be demanding answers for what that look was about, which meant Summer was giving Apu a look that tried to subtly but desperately tell him to not worry about it and to just remember who signed his check.
...which was actually Shunsui, but who do you think made sure Shunsui remembered to do that and who made sure they actually got delivered and not soaked in sake?
Well, that was kind of a moot point, too, because Apu got direct deposit, but whatever.
"Guess so," said Summer, oh-so-remorsefully, really. "Bummer."
And don't throw them out, Barry! That was so wasteful! Summer could totally put that shit in some jello!

"Well, if I can't have a Squishy I might as well get this hummus shot I was promised," Barry joked. "Are you still working tomorrow at Caritas? You're like their chief mixologist out there, right?"
no subject
"You know, I never really thought about it that way before, but...yeah, I guess I kind of am. I mean, I'm definitely bringing some of the more creative drinks to the table...or, well, the bar...and people do keep coming back for more."
no subject
“So how would you describe your role at Caritas?” Barry asked hoping that Summer wouldn’t get suspicious. “I mean you’re more than a bartender right?”
And now Barry was probably getting a look from Apu but he’s going to ignore that.
no subject
Not to, you know, brag or anything.
Especially since it was not exactly always something to brag about...
no subject
“See? You should talk to Kitty about it,” Barry said his grin just a tad bit bigger. “It’s not like fucking Tino is doing anything worthy of the title.”

Barry's smile grew a bit more. Hopefully his plans wouldn't backfire Thursday.
He pulled out his wallet to pay for the Oreos and soon to be disposed of kale chips. "I should probably let you get back to work," he said, weirdly feeling embarrassed. "I know Apu probably needs some supervision to get those lines cleaned."
no subject
"It's a whole big process, apparently," she said, shrugging a little as she finally went to ring up the Oreos and those poor, poor kale chips and bag it up for Barry.
"When did you want to do the guns? Tomorrow maybe
handwavily or otherwise?"no subject
Barry eyes opened a little wider at the sound of that. "Sure! Let's
handwavilyget them installed. I'll bring... pizza. You like pizza?" he said happily.no subject
"Sounds like a good plan."
