The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

This Wednesday evening, the front of the Devil's Nest was covered in colorful paintball splatters, and Tiny was trying to suggest they make the most of it by having a special on colorful drinks.

Octavia was not as convinced, though.

"You know I'm just gonna put grenadine into everything if we do that, right?"

They put nothing up as a special.

It was after perhaps more debate than he would have normally given these sort of things that Shunsui, after harrassing checking in on Movie Class-chan and her steps toward living up even more to her little pet name, swanned his way into the bar and grinned at Octavia there behind it.

"I love what they've done to the place," he declared, "and I don't mean the paintball splatters outside ♥. Octavia-chan. Konbanwa ♥."

Octavia looked a little tense. But, that was really a pre-existing thing, rather than something caused by his appearance here.

(Turned out having parts of her surroundings turning into a warzone even for half a day, even with something as dumb as paintball, didn't entirely agree with her. Funny, that.)

"That's 'good evening', right?" she rasped, with a hint of wariness that... may actually have been specific to him.

"It is ♥," Shunsui confirmed, smile going a bit beaming as he settled into a seat. "I figured it would be a little harder to get away with 'good morning' when the sun has already set ♥."

"Yeah, that's kind of how greetings work," Octavia replied, dryly. "Can I get you something?"

Yes, that felt odd to ask. It had always been him just presenting alcohol to her, never the other way around.

Honestly, if you asked Shunsui, people never really offered to get him alcohol nearly enough, really.

"Perhaps," he suggested in a thoughtful, musing tone, "it should be lady's choice. Surely there's something you've been learning in your newest trade that's worth showing off, Octavia-chan ♥."

"You're getting a beer," Octavia informed him, as she went to get him exactly that. Hey, still involved doing things she wouldn't have necessarily known how to do a few weeks ago!

But, there was very little showing off in getting beer from a tap.

"I'll have to warn you, then, Octavia-chan," Shunsui said, "beer just goes straight to my head ♥. Do you accept tips in sake ♥?"

"Sure," Octavia rasped, as she slid the pint in front of him.

(It was actually one of the ones she personally liked best, but she didn't feel like telling him that.)

"Then for the excellent service ♥," said Shunsui, once he'd loosened his jug from his belt and considered, briefly, how much smaller a cup looked in his hand when it was just the one. He poured carefully, set the jug at an easy reach on the bar, and offered out the cup, "and surely much more to come ♥."

Octavia reached for the cup, and while her fingertips did brush against the palm of his hand, her touch didn't linger.

"You know you also have to pay for it, right?"

"I know how bars work, Octavia-chan," Shunsui informed her with a smirk, "but I also don't suspect this first beer will be my last ♥."

And she'd be getting far more than just sake for a tip.

"Start me a tab ♥," he said, lifting his pint now that the cup had made its safe passage, "and let's hone those beer-pouring skills ♥."

Duke had missed all the excitement in town, having decided to go around the island for a bit of fishing to celebrate not having any classes to teach right now. So he was just kind of side-eyeing those splatters as he came in.

"Does Lucifer know about the new decorating scheme?"

"He hasn't been in to bitch about it," Octavia drawled, looking up. "So I'm guessing no."

"M-hm," Octavia replied, with a vague sort of nod, her gaze already back to the clean glasses she was reaching for, to put them where they belonged.

Duke frowned with his eyebrows, even as his smile lingered. "You okay? You're a little . . . extra vague."

Just, mild enough to the point of being practically expressionless. Clearly fine!

The glasses clinked quietly together as she grabbed a couple in each hand.

Octavia didn't necessarily mean to nudge his hand away, but it just sort of happened by necessity as she went to put the glasses away. Didn't have a hand free for him.

Kept herself from saying 'nothing', though. Wanted to, for sure, but somehow she... couldn't make herself say it.

But it was nothing. Right?

Yeah, that didn't reassure Duke at all.

"Okay," he said, pulling his hand back and frowning in earnest now, even as he adopted a joking tone. "But, you know, if Tiny said something, I can always kick his ass for you."

Tiny did not look at all impressed.

Octavia didn't look up. "Tiny hasn't done anything." She was done with the glasses, but -- oh, there was a stack of scraps of paper to throw away.

There was tension in the way she carried herself, a sharpness to the way she moved behind the bar.
