Trooper Station, Friday

The Station cat had apparently decided that everyone had been appropriately punished for not informing her ahead of time of the change in staff several months ago, and had made an appearance again today. Acting, of course, as if she hadn't disappeared into the ductwork for several months, taking up the entirety of Liam's lap as he sat at his desk as if nothing at all were the matter.

"You know, I was startin' to think you were messing with us," Danny said once he caught sight of the dark void of fur on Liam's lap.

And ha! He saw the cat first. He was gonna lord this over Steve the entire hike.

"Do I seem like the 'messing with you' type?" Liam had to ask.

[hatesparadise]

"...okay, that's fair," Danny had to admit, fishing out his phone. "I'm getting a picture to prove I saw her first."

Liam might not be the 'messing with someone' type but he was perfectly capable of appreciating a bit of petty competitiveness.

So yeah, he was turning in his desk chair to give Danny a better angle of the cat for that photo.

"Fair warning, Steve's gonna turn it into an opp to get this cat's affection now," Danny said, grinning as he snapped the photo.

"This I have to see," Liam snorted with amusement.

"Oh, it'll be great." Adorable is the word he meant. Because Steve not suppressing his emotions was Danny's jam.

Yeah, Liam was thinking along the same lines more or less.

Also, wasn't hanging out with animals supposed to be, like, therapeutic? So really, in the end it might be Steve who ended up getting ninja'ed.

"Think you'll manage to snap photos of that too?" he asked hopefully.

"Oh, definitely." He'd make it happen. "Think we should put catnip at his desk or somethin' to encourage it?"

"... Oh my god yes," Liam agreed. "I can come in before he does on Monday and make sure his desk has been doused."

Yes, he was aware that Steve, Super-SEAL that he was, was definitely an early-to-rise type. But trust him, Danny, Liam absolutely woke up earlier. This would not be a problem.

"Sounds like a plan to me." That cat was just going to live on Steve's desk for the day, wasn't she?
