Know who hadn't been heard from in a while?

The Bee Lady.

Know who was calling today to let the Trooper Station know that the raccoons were trying to steal the honey from her bees' hives? Apparently, they were expanding their liquor assortment and were going to attempt making mead.

Well, at least this call involved actual criminal activity and not just complaints about the 'wee-fee' messing up her bees' sense of direction, so Liam dispatched Calvin to go investigate.

Diego walked in, wearing clothes that he thought looked professional. Since he exclusively wore black it looked an awful lot like every other outfit he owned. But the clothes were clean and free of blood and that was what mattered.

Liam had the air of someone in charge so Diego automatically spoke to him first. "Hey man, how's it going?"

Coincidentally, Liam also wore (almost, he did have a few shirts in other colors, albeit mostly dark ones) exclusively black, so really, there would be no fault found with Diego's wardrobe.

"If this is about-" he started to say as he looked up, and then stopped he actually noticed who it was. Scar. Unfamiliar face. "Ah. You're the new arrival in town. What brings you by?"

"Employment, hopefully." He paused. "Is it that obvious I'm new or is this town that small?"

“Little bit of both,” Liam acknowledged. He made something of a point of noting when new arrivals were mentioned on radio.

“Employment, huh?” he echoed. “What are your qualifications?” said the only person in the office with no qualifications of his own to speak of.

"I went to police academy." Got kicked out, but he went. "And I spent my entire childhood fighting on a superhero team."

“I notice you didn’t say graduated,” Liam pointed out with a wry smile. Which wasn’t a no, just an observation! “Superhero team is a pretty unique qualification, though, I have to admit.” Though less unique in Fandom than just about anywhere else except maybe the various Marvel universes.

"And I heard about the weird stuff that happens here and didn't run away screaming, so..." That had to be good, right?

Well, it was also possible that the reason Diego didn't run screaming was that he wasn't in possession of all of his marbles, but.

"That's a start," he acknowledged. "You have a name?" If he was going to hire the guy it was kind of a key piece of information.

He had all of his marbles! They were just...slightly damaged.

Oh yeah, names were sort of needed weren't they? "Diego Hargreeves."

"Nice to meet you, Diego," Liam nodded. "Liam Kincaid-Price. I'm the Sheriff around here." He did not, notably, offer his hand for a shake. "I should warn you that things here are generally pretty quiet. So if you're expecting a lot of day-to-day action, you might be disappointed."

"Kind of figured that out my first day here. But I'll manage." That was what Baltimore was for! "Nice to meet you, Sheriff."

Did Liam make the slightest bit of a face at being called by the title he'd literally just introduced himself by?

... Maybe.

Would Diego even be able to tell, given that Liam's default face was kind of scowly to begin with?

"So long as you understand that," Liam said. "You're hired. Which is not at all how I'm given to understand things normally operating, but then, we've already established things around here are a little weird. You good to start tomorrow?"

"Sure can," he said with a nod. He really did not care how weird the hiring process was when it worked in his favor. "Thanks."
