Trooper Station | Saturday

Diego had not had the best night's sleep. Sure, he could have slept on the floor when Klaus took his bed but Diego was Diego and stubbornly shoved him over to sleep in it as well. Which of course meant he was kicked all night.

So yeah, he was tired and irritated and now had to spend his shift making sure his brother didn't try to make off with any station equipment to pawn off. It was going to be a torturous day.

Klaus, meanwhile, had slept spectacularly! It was great.

"Are there going to be any more parties like yesterday?" So he could get a drink that he didn't have to scrounge up all on his own.

"It's school run so there's not going to be an open bar if that's what you're hoping for," Diego said.

"But don't the poor students need a drink?" He sure as hell did.

[knife_bender]

"They don't need a drink," Diego said, rolling his eyes. "They aren't taught by dad."

Klaus paused, considered, and nodded like Diego had a point for a change. Red letter day!

"One of the troopers brought donuts." There. That was Diego being nice.

[living_ouija_board]

"Ooo!" Klaus clambered out of his seat to go hunt those down. And, yes, literally anything that was both worth money and not nailed down.

"Remember you are in a police station," Diego called after Klaus. "And bring me a jelly donut!"

"Yes, dear!" Klaus called back like the little shit he was, shoving something shiny off a random desk into his pocket before grabbing the last jelly donut to take a bite of. And then a gross cinnamon sugar one for Diego.

"You know I think you might have just surpassed Luther as worst brother." Yep the donut move was what pushed him over.

"You take that back!"

"I could have said you were the worst sibling, period." But that would be Vanya.

"I am the best sibling we still have around." Ben begged to differ, honestly. And was even rolling his eyes at Klaus as he said it.

"Allison would probably dispute that." Loudly. And possibly using her power to convince you of it too.

"Allison," Klaus said with emphasis, shooting Diego a look that was one of the few things they could agree on: making fun of the rest of their siblings when they weren't there to defend themselves.

Ah yes talking shit about your siblings behind their back; a hobby as old as time itself.

"Heard she was close to getting a divorce." Which he only noticed walking by a news stand and reading a headline on a gossip rag.

He certainly didn't buy a copy and read the entire story if that is what you were thinking.

No, of course not. Klaus totally didn't do that either. Well, he actually didn't. He stole the magazines instead.

"But they seemed so happy!" Klaus said, actually looking a little sad about it. Because one of them had to have a healthy relationship, right? Ignoring the whole, weird, Allison/Luther thing.

Somewhere in the future Five and Delores were having a lovely time together, did that count?

"You never even met the guy." Neither had he, for that matter.

They did in fact count. But they had to find out about that rock-solid couple first.

"Yeah, but the papers said so."

[knife_bender]

"Yeah and they would never lie," Diego said sarcastically.

"I can be hopeful for our loving sister." The non-Vanya one.

[knife_bender]

"You just want to catch her in a good mood so she'll loan you money."

[living_ouija_board]

He couldn't honestly refute that one. "It's usually her manager."

[knife_bender]

"Dude, seriously?" he asked. "You're like one step away from begging dad for money."

[living_ouija_board]

"Please, he never gave me money," Klaus said like that was obvious. He also never gave them love, support, or anything that would cause them to be successful, healthy adults.

It was true, the only thing Sir Reginald gave them was a lifetime of daddy issues.

"Maybe if you get on your hands and knees and tell him he was right about everything ever and promise you'll be a good little superhero again."

Klaus shot him A Look and then one to the only-empty-to-everyone-else air to Diego's side where Ben's hazy figure was. "I'm good without that, thank you."

In fact, he now needed to take a swig from the flask he'd 'found' since arriving here.

"You know this isn't a bar, right?" You were setting a bad example for the Troopers!

"It's not?" Klaus asked with exaggerated surprise.

[knife_bender]

Fuck if Diego didn't smile against his will. God damn it, he had kind of missed this. "Shut the fuck up, dude."

Because only the people who live through your shitty childhood trauma with you could get it. Also, Klaus grinned at that as well like it was totally an accomplishment to make Diego smile.

"I'm getting another donut," he replied with an imperious little sniff that was a total mocking impression of their father.
