Covent Garden Flowers; Tuesday [09/29].
Astrid had sort of been feeling like she was holding her breath all weekend, even with the reassurance she'd gotten from her current case worker that Ingrid showing up would be next to impossible. 'Next to impossible' wasn't any sort of guarantee, though, especially not in a place like this, so she'd kept herself mostly in her room, working on some watercolors, as if putting herself out there would have been equal to opening herself up to fate and bad luck.
But by Tuesday, things felt pretty safe, and she could breathe again, which was nice, because all the flowers today decided to smell comfortingly of vanilla and cinnamon and apple cider, which was why a lot of the floral arrangements coming from Astrid's hands that day were distinctly autumnal in appearance, and she started to wonder if maybe she should think about selling some of her clothes from Claire so she could have a little more money to afford something a little more appropriate for East Coast winters than her current wardrobe would support.
Covent Garden is open!

Covent Garden is open!

Guess who'd burst into the shop, Astrid? Guess!

"Hi, Nina," said Astrid, once she realized all those As were not, in fact, an expression of distress or pain, but apparently just a very extended expression of her name.
no subject
Nina beamed at the other girl. "Are you, like, busy?????????"
Nina, she was working.
no subject
"Not really," Astrid shrugged, glancing over at the....dozens of arrangements she had done in her idle time, and looking back to Nina, maybe with a little bit of hesitation with the next part.
"Why?"
no subject
"Well, like, I was hoping to commission you and Sabine, on an art project???????????" Nina said, with a wheedling note creeping into her voice. "It's, like, for a Christmas gift????????"
For a prince who didn't celebrate it!
no subject
She would be genuinely surprised if she wasn't.
"What kind of project?"
no subject

"What kind of things?"
no subject
But was she done, yet?
No.
"And there's this dome over the city, so that needs to be there too, and he's got a burrito blanket and a copy of that singing fish from the island that we want to have in there as well.........????????"
This was a very silly but serious business painting, Astrid.
"Like, the more dark and dramatic it can be made the better and I can provide you both-----I'll get Sabine's go-ahead too!!!!!!!!!---with reference pictures????????"
Or Prompto would. Either or.
no subject
"You might need to write that all down for us," ahe said, "but I think we can pull that all together. Who's it for?"
no subject
Nina was prepared.
"His name's Noctis and, like, he's kind of a dork but he's pretty great??????"
no subject
She had to look at the list, for sure.
"...dark and dramatic hanging from a sword from a building under a dome while the world spins with a burrito blanket and a singing fish...painting."
Did...did she get it all?
no subject
Mostly because they needed to know his schedule around Christmas.
"You got it!!!!!!!! He's going to be hanging from the sword!!!!!!!!!!"
no subject

"We'll cover all supplies too," Nina added, "so just, like, keep receipts of what you pick up or use, okay??????????"
no subject
"But, hey, other than planning Christmas presents, how have you been? We don't have any classes together, I don't think, it feels like I don't see you much, Nina."
Not that Astrid was a social butterfly or anything, especially now that she'd chosen sleep over breakfast on Mondays these days.
no subject
"I'll try and make an effort to drop by more," Nina promised, adding it to her to-do list. ... Mentally. She'd add it physically later. "It's been, like, pretty good??????? Hoping I get elected for StuCo??????"
no subject
no subject
"Oh, yes," Nina said cheerfully. "Like, I don't think we've got enough people to support the clubs and reserves that the school used to have, which is like, tragic, but I was thinking of maybe running student-led workshops-----maybe one or two a month?????-----on various topics??????? Just to, like, get people hanging out with one another, you know?????? Like we could do an art night," Nina flashed a grin at Astrid, "or if someone's into a sport we could take over the gym and play a game one night?????? That sort of thing?????? Then, obviously, given the island I feel like there should be one on basic first aid??? There's also the salle and the gun range and I was thinking that, like, if we get people who know what they're doing in there regularly, then we can have informal training/information sessions for anyone else who might show up....... And there's the fact that I'm going to throw at least one party on the moon so, like, I have to think of other places-----maybe under the sea would be a good one too, to really shake things up a bit??????? Then there's the idea of a haunted house, where we take over one of the warehouses and make it incredible by all working together..........."
Nina had ideas.
And, no. No, she had not run these ideas past anyone else yet.
no subject
"Well, you'll definitely not be bored," she offered. "I didn't go for it this year, but if you need any help with any of that, you know I'm game.
"...assuming I'm not too busy painting spinning worlds and singing fish..."
She was still having trouble with the singing fish part, but apparently not everyone took that particular trauma the way she had.
no subject
"I'll keep that in mind," she said brightly. "Anything that particularly caught your interest??????????"
no subject
It was for a 'Too Normal for this Crap' club, so she wouldn't say that part, especially not following her support for underwater parties.
"Game nights, too. I'm not athletic or anything, but that sounds like a good way to get out some pent up energy, you know?"
Not that she knew anyone who could probably use a release for that and didn't socialize nearly as much as Astrid wished she would...
no subject
She could probably talk her way into letting the rest of StuCo to follow her lead.
"And, like, yeah, I mean........ if you're not a fighter or someone really trained then there's no real way to get energy out???? So even if it's a rare thing, I'm kind of hoping people will have fun with it???????"

Weirdly well, compared to her experience at Fairfax. Even more so the MAC..
